Roots and Wings

I have always believed in the old saying that the very best thing we as parents can give our children is roots and wings...the. My mamma bear rears its ugly head. Earlier this week when I got that first phone call I remember taking a deep intake of breath...he sounded so very tired...and I could hear with my heart so much more than he was saying. I would have won an academy award with keeping the gears out of my voice...doing all the things that the veteran moms said...encouragement...keep it… Continue

Walking on sunshine :)

Just had a 20 minute call from J!!!! Saw that 847 are code and my hand was shaking so hard I could hardly pick up my phone. I had planned to go out on my bike....thankyou God or that little headache that keep me from my plan?..I'd never have heard the phone. He sounded tire but good....says " get used to being tired" Told about the whole bunch having to do physical stuff after a donut got snuck back from somebody from galley..uh oh! Passed his swim test and said mail goes out tomorrow:) This… Continue

It's golden!!

Who would have thought a form letter could mean so much! It's like I won the lottery ;) or the golden ticket from Willie Wonka
Received it and in less than fifteen had mine ready to go back out to J.
Didn't know this boy could write so neatly....bet his teachers would be surprised too!
Any other Moms with sailors on Ship 13 Division 333?
Would love to meet you!

Just add water?

My "kid in a box" arrived this morning. Who would have thought dirty clothes could smell so good! J's jeans were rolled up like I've seen written on here. Stinky sneakers....no socks, shirt or underwear so I guess those got trashed. Searched and researched his jean pockets for a note. I'd given him a peice of small note pad and pen and asked to leave in his pocket for me. Did find a receipt for a cherry coke zero that he purchased at 15:13 in Bloomington enroute. Not a note but this mamma bear… Continue

7:13 pm July 8th

Just heard the voice I've been waiting for. ...Sounds tired but the "script" was exactly as I'd been reading. He did manage to slip in "I love you Mom" Made my day...one day down.

And the journey begins

Tonight was so much like a June evening 18 years ago...filled with pain, pride and love so full I thought my heart would burst for the little boy who would call me mom. I had delivered him against the odds and he showed from before he arrived he was a fighter who had great things ahead for us both. Tonight as I hugged him fiercely, and said goodby, there were so many thoughts and scenes from the past eighteen years running through my mind. I'm so proud of you J.. Go grab your dream son. Take… Continue

Time keeps on ticking

Can't believe we are on the four day count down. Have noticed J is quieter..here with me for supper last night and seemed very pensive. When asked him about how he is feeling says nervous but then quickly added but "I think it's just because I won't know anybody, but that will change quick" Listened to him talk about Christmas and how he hopes he can be home for "at least that day". He will have his send off party on Saturday then we take to recruiters on Sunday afternoon. I keep thinking how… Continue
