10 Days

Ten days. How did we get to just ten more days to go until my son leaves me for a life unknown? Wasn't it just yesterday that he celebrated his 18th birthday?

No, he turned 18 in January, and on his birthday, he joined the US Navy under the Delayed Entry Program (DEP). I've got to give him credit. He wanted to do this himself, his first major decision as a 'man', so he waited until his 18th birthday when he could sign all the legal documents himself instead of having momma 'co-sign'…

MEPS

I have been good and waited to post to my blog until my daughter had a MEPS date.  I was out of town for the holiday and she called me yesterday (Tuesday) to let me know she will go to MEPS tomorrow and Friday.  The first of many "hurry up and wait" dates is almost here.

K is in college but is so ready to start her Navy career.  She…

Why Blog?

I was asked why I want to write this blog about my son and our experience with him going through boot camp and onto A-School when he isn't even 'in' the Navy yet. That's like asking a pregnant woman why she's keeping a journal when her baby hasn't even arrived. DUH!!

It's a matter of preservation, of keeping a log of everything that's going on, the quick changes that are dealt us, the emotions associated with every step of the process.

One day, we will be able to go back and…

Whirlwinds

My son never ceases to amaze me. From the smallest things on up to the largest things, he always gives 150%. Except where his bedroom is concerned. He can rival the most fickle of teenage girls in this area.

So imagine the look of complete astonishment on my face last night when he announced that he was going to clean his room. I've gone in there to pick up a little, vacuum what floor space was visible, collect stray dishes, and throw away garbage. This is no easy feat when…

Two Weeks and Counting

Two weeks from today, Scotty leaves for boot camp. One moment I'm the proud mom, letting my mind wander over all the special events that he has been a part of and left a smile on my face. The next, I'm a blubblering fool because, let's face it, I'm scared! He is no longer my 'little boy' although he will still always be my little boy no matter how big he gets.

So the countdown begins until this next new, exciting, frightening phase of our lives begins..........

PIR 8/6/2010

My son graduated boot camp on 8/6/10, he unfortunately didn't carry over on the order form the cost of the cd of graduation.  I contacted Great Lakes and they no longer have any cd's left.  If anyone does have a C and is able to copy it for me, I will gladly forward the cost to you.  I just would like to see if I can get a copy of this wonderful event in our lives.  Thanking you for your help.

One year...

Dear N4M,

Tomorrow will be mine and my husbands One year wedding anniversary. And I must say, with this deployment hardly finished with the first quarter...I am a little discouraged. The past few weeks have been rough, yet eye opening. I have ver few friends at this duty station and have lost contact with some and had falling outs with others. Lately I have been feeling very alone which has caused me to do a bit of soul searching. I guess my confidence was a little shot when…

We got the box and introduction

My name is Wendi.  Our oldest son just left on Aug 30th for bootcamp.  It has been really hard on our whole family.  He hasn't ever been away from home and life seems very strange without him.  He has wanted to be in the military his whole life so he is living his dream and I couldn't be prouder but this is just hard on a poor mama.  I look forward to hearing more from all of you who are going through this with me.  I have already read that  many of you have very similar thoughts and…

My son just left and I got the box...

I am very proud of my child for joining the Navy. I know when I see him again he will have matured much than I could ever imagine. Today the box came and it hit me. I did not cry when he left, but it hit me today he is not at home. I can't  text him to see what he is doing or to remind him I love him. I can't just call his phone to ask him how his day going. I know that he is purposed for greatness. I have no doubt that… Continue

Serious Question...

So my Best friend/ boyfriend join the navy and was actually supposed to leave last night. I dropped him off at the hotel after dinner and he went to his room. I got a phone call from him this morning saying that he ended up in the Emergency room because he had had a panic attack.

We have talked to the recruiters and they seem to think that if he get approval from his family physician that he will be able to go back and actually go to boot camp. He is really looking at the negative…

Missing talking to my submariner

I am really missing talking to my submariner!  I'm sure any moms with sailors on subs can relate.  He should be finishing his first deployment soon.  I have been able to talk to him some while he has been out, but it is expensive to talk when not in the states.  He has had to suspend his Sprint cell phone until he gets back to Pearl Harbor, because within a 3 day period, the bill was over $1,000.  We also found out that my cell bill was charged international rates when we talked.  He even…
