Graduation...

Hi All!!

Well, Jeremy graduated boot on 23 Jan 09. What an exciting time! We were so very lucky that he didn't end up a grad and go! He ships out to Pensacola on Wednesday and we got to spend the whole weekend with him. There isn't much to do in Chicago in the dead of winter but, Jay felt more like sitting around, anyway, since they don't get to do that during basic...

He looked so skinny and sallow but, I guess 2 months of no sun, working hard and lack of sleep will do… Continue

OPSEC

Loose Lips Sink Ships or OPSEC

Operational Security, also known as OPSEC, is even more important today than in the past. In the simplest terms OPSEC is denying the “bad guys” information so that our military may complete their assignment. We now have more means of communication that may be “intercepted” than ever before. Cell phone conversations and internet/email transmissions need to be guarded.

Conversations on cell phones are very easy to monitor. Discussing… Continue

Back To Basics

As many of you are already aware, the nastiness generated on Scuttlebutt and other areas of the site has come to a close. Scuttlebutt is taking a much-deserved Time Out – perhaps indefinitely. I’ve sent PMs to several members. Personal attacks will not be tolerated and members will be banned if behavior is not corrected. Think before you post. If you can't respond in a civil manner to something, consider walking away.

Let’s move forward and remember why you joined the… Continue

N4M - Running Slooooowww

As many of you have probably noticed by now... our site has been running incredibly slow. The problems began last night and have seemed to grow progressively worse through the day. I've contacted Ning and I'm waiting on their response along with an estimated time on when things will be back to normal. For those of you who have contacted me about this issue, I share your frustration. In the meantime, I'm trying my hardest to address non-technical issues on the site that have been brought to my… Continue

Now I Know Why ...

... I served. I've thought about my years in the Navy in the past, today is another time for reflection. There was family tradition, patriotism, and practical matters such as the Navy is a darn good career choice. There were always the concepts of freedom and liberty and democracy. But today, my reasons for serving, for supporting our troops and our veterans, today it all hit home. Today is history, today is a day for all Americans to be proud, today is the reason for us all to stand… Continue

***Look what our Davis Sailors are Doing or have Done***

30 sailors from the USS Rodney M. Davis participated in a COMREL on Friday, November 28th at Casita de Mausi. This community relations project focused on cleaning, prepping and painting the newly reconstructed walls of Casita de Mausi, a non-profit organization that provides lodging for patients currently receiving cancer treatment at the Hospital Oncologico. The new construction will allow for double the capacity of patient lodging. Completion of the painting that was done today brings Casita… Continue

The new uniform

January 26, 2009 Here's more up to date info about the new working uniform from the NEX in Norfolk.

Just got a call from my son who suggested the Navy open a loan department next to the uniform department. New uniforms are being phased in with the switch mandatory in several years, by 2011 I believe.

The working whites and blues uniforms are replaced by black pants and khaki shirt. This is what he was wearing when an officer asked him… Continue

Just a quick update.

Just wanted to say hello all, and thank all of you for being so warm and welcoming. Lots to learn. Funny you prepare your children for such GREAT things.... and when they occur... you find yourself being sooo uncertain. I look at my son and wonder how such a "teenager" with all the God given talents... could really be prepared to go. The reality, it that it is I who is not prepared. That will change...

We are also dealing with a relocation in the middle of this, and hubby is… Continue
