OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Hi all, i just wanted to share some tips with you all. When your SR calls, just listen, their time is very short on the phone. If you have a lot of yes and no answer questions, send checklists instead of asking them in a letter, you'll get more info from your SR since they will have more time to write. Only send letters, dont send boxes, unless you are specifically asked by your SR, especaially females as they will want their makeup for pics and graduation, and those that wear contacts will want them. If you send food, the RDC's will make them open the box in front of them and then your SR will get to watch as they eat what you just sent. When your girls ask for their make up, send only what they ask for, they have very little space for extra stuff. Also dont sent singing cards, the RDC's (Recruit Division Commander) love to make them do 8 counts to the music. I found that the more letters i got the happier i was, i may not have wrote back to every single one nor did i really have an interest in all the stuff my mom told me, but to receive a piece of mail to read was the highlight of my day, it mad those really bad days, more bearable. If you have young children, have them write to your SR, it will make them smile. Also if your SR tells you that someone doesn't receive any mail, i suggest writing to them too. if any of you are kindergarten or elementary teachers have your class write to the sailors. They will appreciate the thanks the kids write to them, even with all the misspelled words. ^_^ Hmmmm..... trying to think of anything else to write about...... O.o remember your SR is in the Military, we refer to each other by our last names, so when you ask your SR if they know so and so, don't use a first name. For one, there are 88 other ppl they are with all day and another 88 ppl in their brother DIV. There are a lot of Amy's, Jessica's, Chris's, and Bill's. Some of my friends just found out what my first name was and they have known me for 6 months! lol. You SR wont really know anyone from DIV other then their own and their brother DIV unless they are on Ship Staff. its rather pointless to ask them if they know someone in another DIV, they do everything with their DIV and Brother DIV. There are ppl I've made friends with now that where on the same ship and deck as my DIV was and we didn't even know the other existed. If i think of anything else i will write about it. ^_^
