My son has been in boot camp 16 days. The first week and a half were some of the worst days of my life!! I knew it was going to be hard but it was much worse. Reading what other moms say and how they feel has helped because not even my husband who loves and misses him unbelievably understands the pain like another mom!! Hang in... write when you need support and you will always get a response!!!

my son will be in boot camp one month tomorrow.  It really does get easier as you start to receive letters.  This website is what really has helped me the most.  Co-workers whose children are off to college just can't really relate as they have easy access to their child via cell phone or chat.  Navy mom's just get it.  Hang in there and before you know it you will be at the end of boot camp and see your son.  What an outstanding mom you are for raising not one but two children who want to serve our country.

I hope today was a little better....it was hardest thing I have ever done saying goodbye to my son the day he left for bootcamp.....so proud of him but sad at same time....I started writing letters that day and I dated them and # them...and as soon as I had his address I mailed them  put extra postage on envelope it was thick.... i continued to write everyday ...sometimes letters sometimes cards I would write all over them....insert a photo or comic strip from newspaper...you will survive these next 8 weeks and then oh...when you see him at PIR ceremony the tears will flow again....proud happy tears ....it is just amazing... then "A" school and you can talk on cell phone and text message and email  so it gets alot better.....take care  hope this helps....Allie

I hope you are feeling better today. I cried for almost a week when my son left July 2.....We were the type of family that was always together so when he left it was especially hard on me since he is my oldest son. I am so very proud of him and the man he is going to become. Hope you have a wonderful afternoon and you should get a letter by his 2nd week....

Thank you all for your kind words and encourgement, I am doing better the box came I have to say that's just weird they should put there stuff in storage it's kinda gross to get a box with dirty clothes and shoes in it that belong to your kid who's not in your house anymore. I recieved the standard letter they send out so I have been writing him like crazy every other day I have sent 4 letters and a card. His twin brother is still having a hard time I had wished they left together or a week apart so they could both kinda be a the same point. Anyways thanks @!!!
