Hi there
My son got to bootcamp on 1/26 and we got a call that night saying he was there. We got a letter yesterday in the mail....the form letter with his PIR date of 3/20. I actually got a call today but that was because he needed information for his security clearance. He said they will probably let him call again in a couple of weeks.
Hi Mychael's Mom,
My son was in boot camp last January. I missed his first call and I was so mad at myself for missing it. It was a horrible feeling, and I cried so hard because I felt like I let him down. He left 2 voice messages on my phone when I missed the call, and the 2nd voice message I could tell his voice was cracking, like he was trying not to cry. And that was tough to hear, so you could imagine the thoughts. But then not too long after, he called again, I believe about a week later. And it was a call I did not want to get, because he hurt himself. He hurt his knee during one of their exercises, so he called to tell me that he was not training at that moment until he got it x-rayed. He ended up in their sick unit, because it turned out he bruised his bone in his knee area, so he had to go thru physical therapy. He was in there for about 3 months. He had finally healed, passed some physical tests, and was let back into another unit where he finally graduated last June.
Hi Mychael 's Mom- My daughter left this past Tuesday and I feel the same anxiety. That last phone call was hard to hear bc she sounded so tired but thankful for the call. I have been told from other military parents to expect a home sick phone call at some point bc most of the kids do go through a homesick period. Not looking forward to that kind of call but nice to be prepared and know it is typical. We have tough jobs being a mom! LOL I'm really happy to be on here and be able to talk to others how are going through the same thing. Hope you get that phone call soon!!!
you are absolutely right- they need us as much as we need them. And it's the longest I have been away from her too without communication.... I keep expecting the phone to ring or a text to come through. That is great that he has completed his first week! YAY!!! One week down :) I am still searching through here and getting settle in.. I will have to look into those ceremonies. I saw a quick blurb about decorating hotel doors for graduation... interested to learn more about that. I'm all about embarrassing my girl when I can (in fun ways like that of course-LOL) I'm glad to see there are other mom's other there feeling the emotions I am and that I'm not the only one feeling a little overwhelmed. Friends are great support but it's nice to chat with others who are actually feeling the same feelings. :)
