I will be going to me boyfriends PIR , he would like me to bring some stuff to him to have during A school, but we are not to sure what he is allowed to have. He is staying in GL for school, we already know he will get his new room after he graduates, and wont be going back to RTC, and will be going straight to his room after liberty. Just need to know what I need to bring him from home. Please help me out!!!
Thanks
Gabby
He will want his cell phone, laptop and a few comfort clothes. Some of the barracks allow food and others don't. He will check in after PIR and then have Liberty and he can have things after he calls you after he checks in, but not while he is still at the RTC. See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) check on the group for his rating and in Great Lakes A School Q&A and GL A-school moms.
Join the group, DEP-Leavin for bootcamp in May. Be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month Before Your Future Sailor Leaves for the RTC. I also suggest you join Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and New Members Stop Here and check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) and Discussions there.
Your future Sailor may want to join http://www.navydep.com to learn the ins and outs from the DEP point of view. Craig runs that and will steer him to some good links on there.

He will likely change rooms at least once, so he won't really want a lot of big things (TV, game system) right away. If he can't move it all by himself all at once, it isn't a Good Idea. He may get help, he might not.
you dont have to join a bunch of groups just stay on your facebook division page and your administrator and alumuni will help you
We just got back from my son's PIR, he is also staying at GL for A school. We stayed ay the Holiday Inn Express in Gurnee, it was close to the base, and close to shopping and places to eat. I was surprised that he had to buy his own toilet tissue. So we bought, a new pillow, hygiene supplies, an alarm clock, etc... He was not allowed to use his cell phone unless he was on liberty until phase II of A school. We brought him a few changes of clothes and his laptop. Keep everything simple, he won't have much space and he won't want a lot of clutter because of inspections. Immediately after his ceremony they will have him go check in to A school. Some families walk to the NEX to pick up pictures and order a DVD of the ceremony. If you ask they will give you information at the visitors center. My son already bought his pictures, so I just went to the Great Lakes website and ordered the DVD online. It took my son about 3 hours to check in, so we went to the hotel and waited for him to call. We picked him up at the visitors center gate and he had to be back by 9pm, that is, back to his barracks be signed in. They let us drive on base, with our DL, car rental agreement, and my son's military ID. It is a long walk to the barracks from the gate, if you take him off the base, you'll have to sign him in at the barracks when you return him at night. If you rent a car get a toll pass, well worth the money. Don't forget to print out your gate pass off the facebook page.
What website did you go to to order the DVD online? I have not seen one. Thanks.

I don't know what kinds of stuff your BF likes, but mine wanted his skateboard, goggles, and his mesh swimsuit. They like having their own shoes and underwear of course. If he has jogging shoes bring those for his PT. Bring his sunglasses because he might want them for summer. They always want their laptop, and if he plays gameboy/DS or PSP you can bring that because it is small. Like everyone is saying, don't bring too much because it makes inspection hard. :)
