My son leaves for BT on the 29th of this month.  We're super proud of his decision, but of course as a parent I worry.  I'm calm at times, but then it hits me during the day and I randomly cry that its getting closer in the days coming that he will be leaving.  I know its not going to be forever, but we've never been apart.  His three brothers and his dad are putting on a brave face for now, but I know when the 29th roles around they're going to loose it.  In all, we know he's going to do really good and we support him 100%.  Its weird because I always knew that this son would go into the military.

Since the end of April is when I found this site and its been very helpful to me as a parent.  I've learned so much.  I highly recommend it to all parents who have a child going to BT.  Since then, I have shared with my son things I've learned and now he's excited that I'm learning so much and that's its not so unfamiliar to me.  My fear is the unknown as expected, but learning so much and reading posts show me I'm not alone in this as a parent and that I'm not crazy, lol.  I do feel a sense of pride and I'm super proud of my son when I tell others he joined the Navy.  I told him as long as I'm alive I'm with him on this journey of his life and I'm his biggest fan and supporter.

So to all the parents on this site, I thank you for your wisdom and I thank you all for sharing your thoughts and special moments.

Pokey- One thing my son liked was that he had a calling card ready to go with him. When they went to the NEX the first time, as they would check out, they were asked if they needed one. He had his so didn't need to spend $ on it. What he has is ATT Prepaid Phone card plus. It can be recharged if he runs out of minutes. To use it they call an 800 # and the pin # from the back. Before he leaves make note of both of those #'s so you can go on line and add minutes.
