Hello all,

This my first post... I was extremely happy to receive my daughter's letter and to talk to her on the phone.  She sounds absolutley great.  I'm glad because if she were to tell me that she wants to come home or that she doesn't think she can continue on; it would just break my heart, beacause I don't think I would be able to take it.  The funny thing about this is that my son was in the Navy and I didn't go through all of these emotions.  I mean I was sad to see him leave but I don't remember feeling the way I feel about my daughter joining the Navy.  Sometimes I get so sad then I'm very happy (basketcase).  To be honest, its getting better, I can't wait to see her at PIR 5/31/13.

I can relate to the feelings of sadness and then very happy, definetly a rollercoaster of emotions.  My daughter's grad is 5/10/13.  Like you I can't wait to see her!

What Ship /Div is your daughter in?  where is her "A" School?

Comment by cimerc on April 26, 2013 at 2:34pm

My daughter is on Ship 03 Div. 183, I believe she will stay in GL for about a week after Grad. and her A School is in VA.

Where is your daughter?

Join the group, PIR 05/31/2013 TG 29 - 10 Divisions (205-212, 811 and 929) , to connect with others with loved ones training with your SR.  Know that Divisions 205 and 206 are brother divisions and train together and will have Battle Stations-21 together, so look for others with loved ones in either division.  There is a discussion within that group for the two divisions.

You may also want to join, or at least check out, Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones), PIR Reference Information, and New Members Stop Here. There will be a lot of great information and support for you in those groups as well as in the PIR group. Be sure to check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) and Discussions within the groups.

cimerc, what will your SR's rating (job/specialty) be? There are no ratings with "A" School in VA that stay in GL after BC. CS, IS, and MU all fly out to "A" School unless they have to stay for an extra clearance or some other reason.

Comment by cimerc on April 26, 2013 at 3:24pm

I believe it's CS, not really sure what the reason is for staying the extra week, unless she's not sure herself.  How quickly after Grad do they fly out to "A" school?

CS used to have "A" School at GL and some recruiters still tell people that their Sailors will stay in GL, but that is wrong. She will most likely fly out the day after PIR. "A" School is in Fort Lee, VA at the Joint Culinary Center of Excellence. Join the group, CS (Culinary Specialist) Moms (clickable link), to connect with others with Sailors in that rating. You may also want to check out Joint Culinary Center of Excellence Facebook Page. The Rating Informatiion Card for CS can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/enlisted/rating_info_cards/cs.pdf.
