This is my first post on Facebook after my boy was gone...

The following is something I posted earlier this week. However, because I posted it as a "Life Event" it didn't show up at the top of my page. So, I'm sending it again in hopes that more of you will see it.
My oldest son left home on Wednesday.
April 17 from WV
Ok. Well I guess its about time I said something to all those out there that I know and their opinions of me matter to me. I'm sorry that I'm not very good at putting my feelings down in words but I'm gonna do my best. After H.S. graduation. He agreed to the military. The U.S. Navy to be exact. The only way we all knew he could get the direction and college he needed. So that brings us to last week. He and I have always been best friends (a lot of people disagreed, said I as suppose to be his mother not his friend) believe me, no two people could fight like us and not be best friends and we liked it that way. Its strange, because right up until the moment "it" happened I was happy and excited for him. He had made the right decision. He would see the world and his whole life would change. Then Wednesday came. I got up, got ready, went to McDonalds for biscuits (I think) then we all got in the car and drove to the recruiters office. We hugged, and said "I love you" and then he turned and walked towards the door with his father. They hugged and shook hands as I watched. That's when it hit me, my baby was gone! He would return after basic training for a day or so, but that look of a child in his eyes, that need for his mother, that little boy just walked away forever. The whole thing hit me like a ton of bricks. My baby was gone. Its been a week now and I still want to run to "my best friend" when I see something funny or to see if he wants to go to the store with me. His room is so empty, and the silence in my house is deafening. So, to who ever may read this, its true what they say..don't blink your eye, don't tell them "maybe later" when they ask you to play. Keep your eyes wide open every second because tomorrow is just that. My baby is gone. What he is doing is the best possible thing for him, but as for me, right now, I want him back.
THIS IS MY BEST FRIEND AND THE OTHER IS ME AND BOTH MY BEST FRIENDS!!

Hang in there!!!  I know we are going through some emotional times as we just want our boys back home.  The only way I can get through it without having a meltdown is just to remind myself what a wonderful man he has become. I just need to cherish the time I do have with him.  Our special boys have turn into brave men.
