My daughter left on December 7th to stay overnight in Pittsburgh before flying to boot camp the following day.  I really didn't know we could have went with her and had one last meal together and watch the swearing in....probably better that way.  It was really hard cleaning her room after she left.  I missed her phone call that told me she was there just because I left the phone for 10 minutes to go to the restroom and change into my pajamas.  Who would have thougth she would be calling me at 8:15pm.  I know she was really happy about going and doing something worthwhile but that doesn't mean we miss her any less.  Boot camp will be the hardest because of the lack of communication.  I just have to remember its just 8 weeks.

I'm sure that is tough. My daughter doesn't leave until July 2012 and what I'm doing is writing to her in a journal in preparing for her to depart. Maybe something like that would work for you? Write in a journal as if you were on the phone with her and when she is able to, let her read it.

I got my call at 7:11pm...waited all day and finally the call that lasted 30 seconds...extremely hard to hear as lots of others in the background calling home too....I agree the hardest part is no communication..at least when my daughter went to college I could still call and text her!!! It is just 8 weeks and we have each other on this site which makes it easier for me!!! Hang in there!!!

All the other ladies are correct late evening.  It takes some time for them to get checked in and ready for the call.

My son flew out of Tampa on Dec 7th (Pearl Harbor Day) but I never received a call.  Just today we returned from being out of town, but no message on the recorder.  We did receive his box of stuff though.  I just want to hear  his voice. . .
