My son is leaving for boot camp tuesday the 14th of june!!!

Next Monday I will officially be saying goodbye to my son as he heads for boot camp. It's been a year since he was sworn in and that was the fastest year that I've ever seen fly by. I've been having my moments, but yesterday I could not stop crying. 18 1/2 still seems so young but I guess this is the process of life. This is all new to me and I'm so glad to know there are so many others out there going through this with me. He's heading to illinois. I will be on the lookout for other moms who's children might be going there as well. I will try so hard to have the strengh to let him go, although I find this the hardest thing I've ever had to do!!!!

Hi ladies: I'm not going to lie.. it is very hard. My son left last Tues. for Great Lakes. We went to the swearing in ceremony, spent an hour with him at MEPS and had to say our goodbyes. I waited for the "call" and it arrived at 3 am the following morning. Plan on staying up most of the night. I had the phone in bed with me with the ringer on high. Just yesterday we got the "box". So, kid in a box without the kid. I saw the delivery guy drop it off on my porch and I just couldn't get the guts to bring it in. My husband came home and opened it. Everything he wore including underwear, socks, sneakers, cell phone, ipod and plane ticket were in it. We are now waiting for the form letter with his ship/division so we can start writing. Today has been 1 week and it seems like  1 year. So, like I said, it's very hard.  The best advise someone gave to me is to keep busy and think how much your son/daughter will have grown from this experience once it is over! Laura
