Hi all,

My son left for basic training on the 19th of this month!! (Fathers Day) I've gotten the phone call to let me know they made it to Illinois safely, Thank God., What I havent received yet is the package of things they send home. Either way, Im starting to miss him, after thinking I would strangle him if he stayed in the house any longer... LOL Anyone else going through this? Share....

LOL! My son leaves in 49 days! Some days I want to cry thinking about him leaving and other days I want to fling him all the way to Great Lakes!! :) I understand mixed emotions!!!

Hope you get your box and mailing address soon! Hang in there!

Thanks for your reply.

Funny thing is, his recruiter has already gotten back to me with his mailing address. I guess its gonna take a little getting used to having him out of the house, and Im sure I will.

You hang in there as well, they are all on their way to Greatness!!

my son's recruiter picked him up Sunday the 19th and he flew out of DFW, in Texas...i recieved my phone call and a couple of text's before that.  He said he would call in 3 weeks.  When and what kind of things can we send to them at basic training?  He turns 21 in a couple of weeks and i'd like to send him something edible...lol   Always a mother, worrying if he has enough to eat...  i'm sand and glad - bittersweet emotions!!!

msjnette, You are speaking my language. When my son enlisted 1YEAR ago, that's right, there was a waiting list for his job. When he enlisted I thought, "Are you kidding me?", this kid needs to go now!!! He left for basic yesterday, when I got his first call, it hit me and I just cried like a baby. I did not see that coming. I miss him so much and can't wait to see him graduate! We will get through this together Msjnette. Our boys are sailors now. Godspeed!

I understand completely what you are going through! My son was a Depper for almost a year, he was driving me nuts! And now I count every day till I see him, I write him everyday, sometimes twice. He wrote in his first 2 letters how homesick he was, I was heart broken but I could nothing to make it better. Well I was wrong, all those letters have helped him thus far, he left May 24 and his PIR date is 7/22/11. I write and write, letting him know how proud we are, giving him encouragement and subtle pushes. As the days go by the letters have changed to when he is done, and how well he is doing. So my dear, my advice to you is use your pen and let the words roll.

Msjnette,

LOL and ROF, rolling on floor. I think I am going to do the same thing when I get his things in the mail.  My son moved out when he was 18 for a year and I was sad, but this is a whole new saddness, that I just can't shake. I am just so thankful for this site, it really does help knowing I am not the only mom going through this, and SO MUCH great advice. I now have some comfort on what to expect! I am happy you have an address, I am still waiting for mine :(
