Just got home a couple of hours ago from taking my son to his girlfriends house. He is leaving for a week to visit with her grandparents in Montana. His girlfriends parents are taking both my son and their daughter to grandparents lake house were they will be able to boat and fish and just hang out before he leaves on July 2nd and then she leaves for Texas for college in the fall.  It was a generous gift and I know that when you're 18 and in "love"  the idea of long-distance relationshop is scary and they want to spend as much time together as possible and her folks are there to keep an eye on them but I feel like I just got cheated out of a week with my son.  Actually since he leaves July 1st for meps and I work every Thur, Friday and Saturday night from 6pm to 6am  and he won't be back til next Thursday morning so basically this was our last chance to visit.  I always knew this was coming. He has been in Dep since October and has talked about going to the Navy for the last several years but now it's here and it feels like my heart is being ripped from my chest.  Nothing will ever be the same.  it was  bad when my 2 older children left home but they went to college and of coarse I could pick up the phone anytime and talk to them. That won't be the case this time.  i'm just down tonight. I know that not every day will be this way.  I know he hasn't even left yet and I should just put my big girl panties on and deal with it but tonight I'm feeling sorry for myself and really wished I'd said no when his girlfriend's parents offered to buy his plan ticket for the trip. But he is grown now and he deserves a fun trip before committing the next 4 years (at least) to his country. As I say I just need to deal with it but for just a few more minutes I think I will wallow......Thanks for listening

Hey don't feel bad. My son just left today and the reality just kicked in (not bragging, but a good kid). After him being here every night that I got off from work to help me with my heavy bag in the house and the hugs. I will miss that and have been boo hooing most of the day. He is the youngest and last of the kids and I am trying to deal with an empty nest now.

Hi BR549, my son has been to college but this is different and I can't communicate with him and it is killing me so I will have to wait it out. Will miss him waiting up for me each night I get home from work and talking, going places, running errands for me and  watching tv together. He is my hero and I am very proud of him (not bragging but he's a good kid). Pamelag
