Wow My son just left for BC on Tuesday and barely arrived yesterday! I received his 1 min phone call today @ 1 am. Like yourself my son is the first to leave the Nest he is also my oldest son. It is very hard and im still not even close to getting over it. I hear the same thing " Oh he'll be fne just think of it like hes gone to college'. That gets to me because i dont get to talk to him, email, or even visit every weekend or him coming home every weekend. I still dont know how to be without him and its going to take me a long time! How old is your son?
I got his phone call the other night--11:00 over here, and he sounded almost too good--almost like he was reading a script. The phone call lasted all of about 30 seconds, tops, but I have to admit it felt so good to hear his voice. And this Navy Mom website is really helping me--I don't feel alone or so pathetic, because knowing all of you have felt the same as me is comforting. I worry so much about what he is going through right now, but this is all the boy has talked about since he was 4 years old. People with the old "like he's at school" line will never snap out of it I'm afraid, they have no concept and it's a little frustrating. I am dreading when his 18th birthday rolls around next month and I know he's there and not here, and I cant send him anything for his day otherwise it will end up with him being tormented........no fun.
My son left for Boot camp on 8/10/11 and besides the quick, "I made it Mom" phone call, I have heard nothing. This I expected, but I really thought that I would be able to write Him. Where do I get his address? I really didn't want to call his recruiter.
I didn't call my son's official recruiter. I called a local recruiter the day after he left with his social security number and he was able to give me the address. I hope that helps.
By the way, The proper format for recruit mailing addresses is:
SR NAME
SHIP XXX DIV XXX
RECRUIT TRAINING COMMAND
XXXX STREET OR AVENUE
GREAT LAKES IL 60088-XXXX

My stepson leaves for MEPS tommorrow, and Great Lakes on Thursday. I'm not sure how I'm should be feeling. He's lived with my husband and I for the past 22 months after his mom left. Somedays I wanted to scream and somedays I could have cried and somedays he's make me proud. Today I am feeling all those things. I will miss him, even though I did give birth to him he's still my baby boy.
I got 2 letters from my daughter today. She says the food is good also. I am still waiting on that 2nd phone call. Her PIR is October 7th. Try to book the Navy Lodge. It is nice. We stayed there back in June, when my son-in-law graduated boot camp. It is 65.00 a night and no taxes
