My daughter graduates 9/30/11. I moved the same time she went to boot camp. Im a single mom, trying to get a job to survive. I have been listening to how much room cost a night are. The rates seem decent but its still allot of money to come up with on my budget or her boyfriends budget. In this economy i know im not the only one. I live close enough i can drive there. What options are available for moms or dads like me?

It looks like your only 4 hours away so could you afford 1 nights stay at the Navy Lodge?  I think it's around $65.00 for the night.  You'll only be able to spend about 8 hours with her but it's a one in a life time chance so I would try to come up with the money somehow.  If you don't want to spend money eating out just bring food from home and maybe you could have a picnic lunch in the park and just visit.  Illinois is beautiful in the fall.

I know it is expensive - we spend so much money just to stay two days but it was well worth it.  If you have to, leave in the middle of the night, take your Sailor to McDonalds and spend the day walking around and drive home that night.  But whatever you do, do not miss it.  Your Sailor needs you there after 8 weeks and you will not believe the experience of PIR. Good luck to you.

Hi clippercurl, we were in the same boat a year ago it was 3 of us that were going to PIR we stayed at the Navy Lodge   (800)628-9466 when you book with them mention your sons graduation and youll get room for $65 a night well worth to Go to PIR, me and my fiancee drove 19 hours from Jersey it was not easy but well worth the trip. The Lodge is very close to the base in a safe area and nearby there is a Nex small supermarket that the Lodge gives you a discount card in the lobby to use there and also there is a gas station. The regular rooms have a microwave and a small fridge and in lobby they have all day long free delicious coffee and in morning they have Free Breakfast to Go for PIR bags starting at 6am. I was a bit late with my mortgage that month but well worth it he is my only son and I needed to be there so I was thankful to God that we were there at PIR.Good Luck

Although we didn't take him up on it, our Sailor offered to pay for part of our trip to GL for PIR. We drove from St Louis and we stayed at the Navy Lodge 2 nights. Well worth the trip!
