Should we get married before A or after A school? I really need help!

Thanks for taking some time and checking out my blog! I'm new and suuuper confused! I could use all the help I can get :)

My fiance just signed up for the Navy in May of this year. A week after he met with the recruiter, he proposed :)! I'm so excited but we haven't made plans yet, nor set a date! We're afraid to make any plans because there is no telling what will change in the next couple of months as far as A school and shipment days go.

He is leaving Sept. 5th of this year, and since we know he is going for logistics we estimated that BC ( like others) will take about 2 months and A school will be about a month. We are not sure what they will do immediately after BC or when he is going to A school which makes things really hard to plan! Our main priority is getting me out there to be stationed with him after A school.

We knew that the Navy will bring sacrifices, but we both would really like to work this out before he goes. Atleast have a blue print or idea of what we should do. I'm afraid when he gets back there will be so much he'll have to do, that is if he gets some time after BC, that we won't get to it all.

it all kind of depends on how fast you want to plan and how big of a wedding you want. I got married during A school and if I could do it all over again I would have done it before he left for boot camp to save a big mess. We just did a court house wedding so didnt need any planning. If you are wanting to follow him right away you will need to be married before he gets his orders or move on your own money or wait for approval from his comand before you can go. It is all just a personal choice but for me I would do before he leaves for boot camp.

As lovemysailor has stated, you will need to be married before he get his orders if you plan for him to have accompanied orders and for the Navy to move you.

Join Girlfriends, Fiances, and Wives of Sailors and they can help you with how things work.

You mention that his "A" School is about a month; what is his rating (job/specialty) going to be? There may be a group for it and/or his "A" School and they may be able to provide more insight.

Join the group, DEP-Leavin for bootcamp in September. You will meet others with loved ones leaving that day/week who may be in the same TG and have PIR together. Be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month Before Your Future Sailor Leaves for.... I also suggest you join Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and New Members Stop Here and check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) and Discussions there.

Your future Sailor may want to join http://www.navydep.com to learn the ins and outs from the DEP point of view. Craig runs that and will steer him to some good links on there.

If his A school is as short as a month, there's a decent chance he will be issued his PCS follow on orders during boot camp.  There will be little, if any, time to marry during A school.  He certainly doesn't get to come home for hat, and he cannot marry PIR weekend.

Go get married now, make the recruiter adjust the paperwork, and don't take no for an answer.   If you want a fancy white wedding, you may be waiting years. Sometimes the marriage is more important.
