Well, today my son decided what he will do for sure. He has been very wishy washy on what he wanted to do as far as college and the NROTC scholarship., and bootcamp. Today we went to The Citadel for his Pre-Knob visit, he stayed all of 45 minutes and had them bring him to me. He looks me in the eye and says to me "Mom I am not ready for college, I want to go into the Navy first and see what I can do. I promise I will return in the future and become a Citadel grad one way or another, but right now the Navy is for me." My heart broke, I really wanted him to go to college first, but have always told him it is his decision on what and how he moves forward in his future. I will support and love him no matter what. I am so very Proud to be a soon to be Sailor's mom, but at the same time my heart breaks because I am going to mis him so much.

I know in my heart this is for him and where he should be, I was just hoping he would be close just a little longer. (The Citadel is only an hour and a half away from home.) In fact just now I was looking at pictures of babies in "sailor" suits, and remember I had a picture of him and his little brother as small boys in sailor outfits. :) Funny how now both want to be in the Navy somehow. Maybe it was preview of what is to come.

To my son:

I love you so much, and so very proud of the man you have become. I wish you the best, and hope that the Navy is all you want it to be. Please know that no matter what I will always be here for you!

Love,

YOUR MOM! and greatest supporter!

This is the first letter I will send to him :)

Sorry to ramble but, I had to get it out.

Thanks to everyone who brought forth questions and suggestions these last few days, some of it helped him make a decision.

I'm very proud of YOU, for accepting HIS decision. My son joined the Navy without either his dad or me knowing. I'll admit, it was a bit of a shock at first, but then pure pride (from me anyway).

He did an awesome job in bootcamp and A school. I know in my heart that he has done so well because it was HIS decision to join. No one made him or pushed him into it.

Your son will do just as well I'm sure!! Congrats and please thank your son for me for deciding to serve his country!
