Shame on the whiners and complainers at the airport this morning. The handful of young men and women that TSA passed through the line without making them wait aren't going on vacation. They're deploying on their very first mission away from home. What a way to send off our military by screaming at them how much longer YOU waited in line. Guess who will be defending your freedom this holiday season while you're decking the halls and Fa la la la la, la la la la-ing?

I am so sad to read this. People still don't understand the concept that American Military Members are still being deployed to numerous other countries. I wasn't there, but have to beleive that they were in uniform. Even if they were not, screaming at them is not necessary or supportive. People need to grow up!

It happened today at LAX. My daughter experienced it. They were not in uniform but they all had their camo backpacks on. I would think it would have been obvious to those standing in line that those kids wearing dog tags, and showing military ID were not tourists. It's not the typical reaction she gets when she travels. People usually see that tiny girl lugging a huge sea bag and nod, wave or thumbs up at the least. Her last flight home to DFW we had people offering to help us carry luggage. I don't expect anyone to give her special treatment, but respect would be much appreciated.

Some people are arrogant. Some just don't understand. Most do thank our military, and that is what we hold on to! When I see a man/woman in uniform, I make sure to thank them....always!

OH MY GOODNESS!! So sorry that happened!! I am hoping that it never happens in front of me because I just may say something that those people would not want to hear. I am very PROUD OF MY SON AND ANY OTHERS WILLING TO SERVE OUR COUNTRY!

My son and about 70 other new sailors were at Midway leaving for various locations and the citizens of our windy city could not have been more hospitable, We got stopped in the airport by many saying "thank you for your service." sorry for what your sailor encountered but at least we know there are some grateful americans who know what our sons and daughters are sacrificing. And by the way the airport USO's are terrific. They really go above and beyond to make sure our sailors and all service men and women are taken care of in the airport

My husband was on line to go thru security at West Palm Beach Airport when he noticed a crowd of about 20 people in the waiting area. They had balloons and signs say "Welcome Home". As passengers were coming thru the waiting area, the soldier that they were waiting for walk in and they all started cheering. Then everyone on the security line with my husband began clapping and cheering too! It was a very moving experience for my husband.

We were at a Chipotle Mexican Grill. My husband and I noticed a young woman in fatigues getting in line. He and I smiled at each other knowing that one of us would get up and pay for her meal. We did not want any fanfare (by handing her cash), so we waited until she reached the cashier. She had place a take out order of 5 items obviously for a number of others in her unit who were probably working. As I walked up to the cashier, three people pushed me aside and rushed ahead of me. We were all too late. The woman in front of the soldier had put everything on her credit card already. We all laughed and thank the young woman who smiled shyly and said, "We are just doing our jobs." but you can tell she was extremely pleased that so many strangers cared. I know LAX. It's a huge airport. I have searched the local news in So Cal. I have not found any reference to the above incident. Has anyone else? Most newspapers are "left" leaning by nature but the Los Angeles Times is a super newspaper and would publish opposing view on issues. @SeabeeMomma - have your daughter writ the LA Times editorial.

Honestly it was probably a way bigger deal to me as her proud Mom than it was to my seabee. In our experience, this has just been one isolated and unnecessary incident. Most of the people we have encountered in the past 8 months have been wonderful and gracious beyond belief. I doubt it made the news as it was only about 4 or 5 people who got upset. A married couple screamed and went overboard over the issue even after they were told the kids were deploying military. Luckily, I wasn't there or I probably would have unloaded on the lady when she said "So what if they are military, I've been here an hour and a half". My daughter was excited about leaving the country for the first time, and didn't let the negativity get her down.My kiddo has manners and doesn't argue with those who are ignorant and/or arrogant. She will continue to serve and protect freedom for ALL. I will forgive and forget those few at LAX who behaved badly last weekend. I look forward to the kind reception that I know she will receive upon her safe return in the spring. Thank You ALL for your thoughts :)

I am a moderator on a board where a person is currently calling the troops overseas mass murderers. I tried to reason with him, as did others on the board. A surprising amount of "liberal lefties" are vets and support the troops ferociously. This guy doesn't get it. I could delete his comments, but there's that pesky freedom of speech thing which I truly believe in. I served for such ideals, I have to be consistent and allow his stupidity. I will never convince him that the ideals are real and true, and that while war is terrible, our troops are humans who deserve respect.

Some people will never, ever understand. Still, they deserve the rights and freedoms accorded to all Americans. I just wish I'd been there, I'd have started cheering the troops to make more noise than her whining. Then told her, in salty sailorly terms, why she was a ... um, idiot.
