Well, so far his classes have been very challenging and not easy. He is kinda like a very good student - he could be a professional student for a living. I think he prefers to be in school than work, ya know. But he said it's hard. And, they have homework on the weekends as well as at night. That must suck. He did get an A on his first test so I hope he does well. I have heard that a lot of people aren't able to finish the program. He said his teachers rotate and this week his teacher is mean. He said he's wondering if the first one was only nice b/c it was their first week. Oh, and he has a roomate again now. His freedom was short lived. I wonder what it is about our guys not being fond of their roomates??  If you see my son.... run up to him and give him a hug from me!!  I'm sure they all kinda look the same with buzz cuts and camo's!!  I know you can't take pictures on base but pleaaase take pictures of something and post them!!  KC just went to a huge free concert in San Francisco on Sat. and didn't take pictures. ugh. Have fun!!  I'm so excited for you ..... and jealous!!

That's great news!!  I was just thinking about you wondering where you've been! Anything going on with him exciting? KC just started his actual school yesterday. Haven't talked to him so I don't know how it went.  And his roomate got moved so at the moment he has the room to himself which he is VERY happy about, but that could change by this afternoon! haha. So jealous that you get to go out there. I can't wait to hear details of what it's like. Keep me posted. And if you happen to run in to a tall, handome sailor named KC give him a hug from his momma!!!

That's really bizarre. According to KC he should be in phase 3 by Labor day w/e. And believe me, he has not had perfect inspections, so I know that doesn't hold him back. He had a few 'marks off' on the last 2 inspections. you must be really frustrated. I wonder what is going on? Are you still planning on going Labor Day?

Oh my God!  when you go out there to see your bf.....find my KC and give him a big hug for me!!  He is somewhere on the 2nd floor - hunt him down if you have to!!  I'm JEALOUS!!
At 12:08am on August 14, 2011, KC'smom said…
Oh? I'm sorry, but I'm sure by Labor Day he will be in phase 2. I don't know what determines how they move to the next phase. I asked but didn't understand his answer. Something about taking tests or passing tests or doing stuff. I wasn't real clear on it. Maybe he will phase up on Monday.  In fact, I'm sure he will!!!!  (thinking positive so you can buy your airline tickets!!)

Oh, and by the way..... as far as taking the college class - might not be for everyone. KC has a very special talent... school is like second nature for him. It's what he does best. For him, taking a class is like riding a bike. I swear, the boy could be a proffesional student! I'm sure a lot of people would like to enjoy the break, trust me. He took college classes while in H.S. and then in college he already had enough credits to be a Junior by the end of his freshman year!!

don't know if he phased up, but my younger son was just texting him and he wrote back that he was moving into a new room right now. I wonder if that means he passed the 1st phase?  I just shipped him som civilian clothes and a few other things that I wanted to give him at PIR but either wasn't allowed to bring it on the plane or wouldn't fit in his back pack. It cost sooooo much to send. You know what? I'll bet he did "phase up" b/c he said as long as he doesn't get in any kind of trouble he will be allowed to wear civilian clothes this weekend... and now he is moving into a new room...sounds like a phase 2 to me!

You should recommend your bf to take a college course while waiting for school to start..... I just found out that KC gets to walk off the base 3 days a week to go to college (it's a mile walk). He stops along the way at different restaurants and has a nice meal while he's out. Yesterday he stopped at a Mediteranean Cuisine place. How sweet is that???? hahaaahahaha. considering they haven't phased up yet to leave the base, it's a nice way to get off the base at least for a bit.

Yes, I ask him to call me and he does. Otherwise, he doesn't like to call us too much. He called Friday to tell me he had the whole w/e off starting at 1:30 pm. then i asked him to call us Sat. night b/c the whole family was together. But I text him constantly!! (poor guy).....(I mean, who wants their mom texting them all the time). How about you? Get much contact with the bf??  What was he up to all weekend???

Hi florida_girl ;

Your sailor is probably just now getting accustomed to A-school life after the shock of his time in GL. Depending on when he classes up he may have plenty of extra time -- and yes, he should have some time that weekend as Monday Labor is a holiday. We are flying directly to Monterey which saves time from flying into to San Fran or San Jose then driving over. Looks like alot of nice places to stay in Monterey - I found a cottage to stay at that is only a few blocks from the presidio. Good luck to you both!

KCs mom you are so funny! haha

Florida girl, it was verrrrry nice meeting you too!! We did not get to go to the park, but we did do shopping, movies, and the beach so that was fun. We had a good time. I really hope we all can stay in touch!! How long is your man's a school?

At 6:56pm on August 1, 2011, KC'smom said…
How sweet to let mom hug him first!!  I was so lucky I had him almost all to myself and I held onto him like a damn girlfriend and wouldn't let go of him. Even in the mall, I wrapped my arm around his like his sweetheart. I asked him if he wanted me to stop and he said, 'no, its cool'. hahaha.  PIR was so amazing, i hyperventilated when the did the Sailor's Creed. Just couldn't believe how precise everyone was. It was crazy!!  I will be purchasing the video even though my son told me not to!!

I've read the articles on DLI but I just got done watching a youtube video about it (well, okay 2 vidoes). It was really cool. Are you allowed to say which language your bf is taking? If not, all I can say is ..... I have no idea how anyone can learn my son's language!! OMG! Poor guy. I hope he makes it. I actually heard that there is a 50% fail rate. My son is super smart so I guess he'll be okay, but my dad says it all depends on how people's brain works. He might be good at certain languages but not HIS assigned language. If you haven't done so already, definitely youtube it. There were a couple to watch!!

My son has a roomate and it's not your boyfriend :(. he said his housing is temporary and probably changes in about a week. It was so nice to get an email from him with his address already and I've been texting him all day. (not that he responds, hahaha). How was it sharing him with 15 other people???
At 12:33am on July 26, 2011, KC'smom said…
I hear ya! I mean, it seems that the moms know their son's / daughter's language??? He must be making sure he is super careful. My boy told me he can tell me some stuff but not all. But, he did tell me the language.
At 11:40pm on July 25, 2011, KC'smom said…
maybe your bf is being really good - maybe he was told not to discuss his language with anybody??? My dad was apparently a cryptologist  in the Navy and he has still never told me that to this day. Or what language he learned!!  I'm 40 now!!  hahahaha. I found out that he was a CT by accident through someone who recognized his name.
