Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

You are very welcome.
He won't submit the names for the Access List until sometime in the week or so before PIR (some Sailors have indicated that they did it the week of PIR), so write to him with the names of up to 4 people who will be attending so he will know the names to write down when the time comes. Take care and blessings to you and yours.
The contracts offered to him will be based on his qualifications, the needs of the Navy, and what is available; and yes, the length of his contract could change to 4 years rather than 6 years if he chooses a contract with that length. Most who went in with a contract for a rating will get a contract for a rating and "A" School, but some end up going with one of the PACT programs (see Professional Apprenticeship Career Tracks (PACT) Program). As far as the E-4, SR's can only have E-3 after BC and if he met the requirements for that, he will still get that. He may be eligible for one of the ratings that has a fast track to E-4 based on his scores; you'll just have to wait and see what he decides on. They usually try to have recruits meet with a classifier within a week because they want them to have a contract, which helps the Navy and the recruit to know what will happen after BC.
When you know your SR's new contracted rating, let me know and I will give you info and groups for that. Take care and blessings to you and yours.
The RTC does not close, but training time is reduced due to the holidays and yes, it does happen that recruits have 10 Fridays this time of year. See Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.
To get the most likely PIR date, count 9 Fridays after arrival (01/17/2014) and then know that it could be the week before (01/10/2014--less likely with the holidays, but possible for those shipping on Monday or Tuesday of that week or sooner) or the week after (01/24/2014--possible because of the missed weeks). See Arrival and What Happens at the RTC, If his PIR ends up being 01/10/2014, then he will be in the Adopt-A-Sailor program for Christmas, don't expect him to be and be pleasantly surprised if he is. See What does ??? mean? (A Guide to Navy Abbreviations and Terminology).
Welcome to Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones). I look forward to sharing this journey with you. Be sure to check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) for information on what to expect and to help you prepare for PIR. Start with OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) and Arrival and What Happens at the RTC, and read 1 or 2 pages a day and then go back to them as you need the info. Take care and blessings to you and yours.
