Hello everyone...it has been a few years since I have been back to Navy4Moms. My oldest enlisted over 6 years ago and is still active. Now my youngest will be attending OCS in February, and I am back looking for support, information, and a place to share. As I have been down this road before, I know how invaluable the support from other Navy moms can be. I am hearing that there are certain groups for certain OCS classes. I would love to be pointed in the right direction to join the appropriate group. Thank you!

Hi ctownnavymom,

My son enlisted in 2008 and attended OCS in 2012, so I've had a taste of both paths. You want to find "Officer Training Command Newport" on Facebook. They posts lots of pictures of each class through their training. There will also be a Facebook group for your sailor's OCS class. They have different names. It may be "Family and Friends of Navy OCS Class ##-17" or "Navy OCS Class ##-17. Once you have the class number you can search.  If you have any other questions, I would be happy to help. Best wishes to both your sailors!!

Thank you so much! I will definitely go check it out! xo

I don't believe that there are certain groups for certain OCS classes here on N4M's.  The only group I know of here is "OCS Graduate Moms."   As NYNancy posted, if you are looking for a group specific to your OCS class, search Facebook.  There may not be a group started yet until the class starts.

We are not trying to steer you only to Facebook and away from Navy for Moms!  But we can only answer general OCS questions here.  I'm finding that I'm not so helpful in this group anymore because my son graduated OCS in Sept 2012, and they have changed many things at OCS since then, so I can't be very specific and be certain that I'm giving accurate info.

If there are any Moms here who have had recent OCS graduates, I'm sure they could give more current info than I on what's going on there now.

Good luck to your Officer Candidate!

ctownnavymom,

I hope you also use facebook because those groups are all on there.  First and foremost, search for Officer Training Command Newport.  They post pictures of each of the classes and updates on what each class is doing.  If you're lucky you will get to see a couple pics of your candidate!!  The individual classes are usually titled US Navy OCS class xx-xx Family and Friends.  The x's are your candidates's class number!!  Also ask to join one or two classes ahead of your kiddo's class so you get a window into what is coming up next for your class.  I got plenty of info from those other classes!!!

Hope this info helps.  Let me know if there is anything else I can help with.

Thanks Anna!

Congrats! Mine LO was commissioned last aug 2015. There was some much I did not know but was able to learn thru here and the fb page for his class. They had many files to read to helped to know what was the  different phases your LO will go through. When they check in they will get to call you with the class number and unlike BC after RLP ( room, locker and personal inspection) they then get email access. Has your LO left yet? The officer  training command page i can not tell you how much excitement it created searching the pictures that they posted looking for my son. It was a game of searching for waldo but definitely worth it. The trip to see him receive commission was well worth it. If you would like any of the info that show the phases, abbrevation, does and don't please ask i will try to send them to you.

Thank you so much! No, he won't leave until the middle of February, I learned from my first son that the more I research before they leave, the more prepared I am on many fronts! This site was invaluable to me with my enlisted son and I am hoping I will be able to get a lot of information for my youngest!

If your LO is not leaving for a month, encourage him to really be in good physical condition. He will really be glad during the first phase. It is quite intense (short duration--very high intensity) and more than they possibly think it will be.
My son is at OCS now. He will receive info on the friends and family Facebook page that they set up for each class. It is helpful to follow their progress together. The Facebook page for Office Training Command Newport will also post pictures each week by class. Good luck to you Officer Candidate.

Thank you LucyJo! I have been following the pictures on the Facebook page! It is very exciting...and overwhelming at the same time! I've been through this before with my oldest. However, he was enlisted and went to Great Lakes for Bootcamp. This is all very different!

ctownnavymom,

I have one daughter who went enlisted and went to GL for bootcamp.  4 years later her twin sister went to OCS after she graduated from college.  Trust me when I say, nothing that my enlisted daughter went through could have prepared me for what my OCS daughter went through.  I never prayed so much as I did for that girl!!!  You might want to look for "A Blue Candle Event" at the top of the Events column on the left hand side.  My daughter felt relieved when I would tell her I had my blue candle lit for those big events in OCS when she knew she needed all the "special help" she could get!!! Best wishes for your son and his OCS journey!!!
