Just trying to find out the truth, I'm lost with a lot of questions.

This will probably be the most random post, but I just need to find answers. It's been very hard for me this past week, I feel so lost and heart broken. I was dating a guy I met at work. He was very nice and good to me. He stated he was in the Navy and re-enlisted back in September before I met him. I never saw any pictures of him in his uniform, but didn't really question him at the beginning. He calls me one day, back in Jan to tell me it was time, I knew it was coming so I was calmed. About a week past then he said they were going to change it to a different date. He didn't know when, probably April- May. That seemed a little odd to me. But I was very naive, I wanted to trust him. March he had a final date. June 15th, a few days later he said June 1st. He was suppose to fly out to Vegas and get deployed from there, he said to South Korea to the Carl Vinson ship. I've been doing my research online about the ship last update was in April. I tried to take him to the airport, he didn't let me. That was weird because he wanted to spend all his free time with me no matter what. I started to question him and asked to see his plane ticket, he said his mom had it. I asked him to FaceTime me or snap me when he got to the airport, he refused. He said right when he got to Vegas his phone was going to be taken away, but that evening he was still active on Facebook and the following morning. I messaged him, asked where he was to just tell me the truth. He said he was in Hawaii on a computer waiting for his next flight. Things were definitely not adding up. The following day, a friend of mine calls a Navy office, she just asked questions about the deployment process. She ended up telling them the story. The recruiter asked to speak with me. At the end he asked for his name, he told me to stay away from him because there was probably less then 1% of a chance he was saying the truth. That moment I felt more lost. I never met his family, I exchanged a few text messages with his mom, a few days before he left. Well, 15 minutes later the mom calls me, she asked why I called the office that I could have ruined his son future and career. To stay away from him, that I was going to get deleted from all his social media, she had access to all his passwords. That was never my intention, I have love for him, he was good to me always. I just need answers. Tuesday I received photos from the mom. He was in a office with a few more people signing a paper. I've been reading a lot on line. It seems like the photos are from a MEPS office. So I'm just trying to figure out if he just enlisted for the first time and if he's going to boot camp and that's why he will get his phone taken away for the first three months. We had plans to meet back in September 14th to the 17th in Chicago, he said he was going to school there to change his rate. After he got back from the ship. I don't want any issues, nor get him in any trouble, I'm just trying to find out the truth. My question now is,how is the process when you re-enlist? Is your phone taken away? Online all the videos for re-enlistment, sailors have their uniform and are shaved. He wasn't he had a hoodie and tenis shoes. Are phone taken away? You guys that know I just want to know your thoughts. Like I said I don't want any issues, but this just doesn't feel right.

Thank you JudyR.

No, once a Sailor is out of Boot Camp (BC), the Sailor is permitted access to his cell phone when not on duty unless the Sailor is under restriction for some reason. There is A LOT that is fishy with the story.

How old is he? He would need to be at least 22 (or close to it) to be on his second enlistment. If he actually was in the Navy, then he would not have Leave from September to June. Sailors only have 30 days of Leave per year.

Perhaps by "re-enlisted" he meant that he had previously been in DEP or maybe even had gone to BC and was separated for some reason.

It appears that this person may be in BC, if he is even in the Navy. It would be best to forget him and move on. He doesn't sound like someone you need to be around, nor someone who upholds the Navy Creed.

He will actually be 31 in August. The photos I got, he is signing a paper with a sailor. There are 4 other guys and a girl, but they all seem younger. The only thing I can't understand is how did the mom find out we call the office? They probably informed her. I didn't tell anyone, only my friend who was already with me. He would always say everything he did was very secretive and dangerous. We were only going to see each other for 4 days. Then he said he was coming back home in December, and was probably going to get stationed in January. He wanted to become an electrician instead. Do you know what the base in Chicago specializes in? He said he was in the Navy for 6 years previously, that this time he sign his contract for four more. For work his military leave was aproved like four days after the actual day he left. He would pay our reservesitions out of town with his Navy Fedaral card. I know you can get them through family members. His sister is in the Navy. Thank you, this helps a lot.

Somebody may have called the Sailor due to the inquiry and he then let his mother know.

Electrician's Mate (EM) does have "A" School in GL, "A" School is around 18 weeks.

What you have posted this time is a little less fishy, but still suspect. There are several ratings that require a level of secrecy and would fit with the initial 6 year commitment. I still think you would be better off to move on and leave him behind.

And has anyone ever seen a pic at MEPS? Top secret?

Pooter, yes, there are pics at MEPS of future Sailors being sworn into DEP and of recruits being sworn in before shipping to the RTC. Some have been able to take pics of the future Sailor signing the initial contract (or reenacting it), but that doesn't often happen.

Great Lakes Naval Training Center is boot camp. MEPS is run by the Army and is close to O'Hare airport

There are also "A" Schools in GL.

MEPS is a Department of Defense joint-service organization staffed with military and civilian professionals. There are 65 stations in the US. Nothing top secret about it.http://www.military.com/join-armed-forces/meps-process-requirements...

Thank you everyone.
