Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

OCS starting in July?
Does anyone have a LO beginning OCS in July? I am new to Navy. My other son is Army National Guard infantry. Thanks

Read the other discussions here in the forum and as far back as you can on the comment wall. We have had several new OCS moms join recently, and we may have answered many of your questions already. Also, closer to the time your LO reports to OCS, search Facebook, if you are a member, for a group called "Navy OCS Class XX-XX Friends and Family" or some variant of that wording, where XX-XX is your LO's class number. The Facebook groups are great support to chat with other parents of the same class. You can also search for "Officer Training Command Newport" on Facebook. That is the official OCS Facebook page, and they usually post pictures of the current candidates doing their training.
A big difference you will notice between the Army and Navy is that the rank names are different. For instance, a Captain is a lot higher rank in the Navy (O-6) than it is in the other services (O-3).

Thank you M's mom. I had seen the FB page on a comment somewhere on here and found it yesterday. I will keep looking at the discussions. Some of them weren't current. I will keep looking. I don't know his class number yet. I appreciate your help.
