While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Please note! Changes to this guide happened in October 2017. Tickets are now issued for all guests, and all guests must have a ticket to enter base. A separate parking pass is no longer needed to drive on to base for parking.

Things have changed since my sailor's PIR, so I can't help you with advice on when to arrive. I do recommend booking your flight as soon as possible as fares go up the closer it gets to your flight date. Another reason to do this, which I haven't seen mentioned in a while, is that when you let your recruit know by phone or mail that your plans are firm it gives them added motivation. It's tangible proof that you believe in them succeeding, even if for a few moments they don't believe it of themselves. And thinking that if they don't do whatever is hardest for them, they won't get to see you on that PIR date might give them that little added push to do that swim, run, whatever. And for me, even though I ended up changing my flight to a day earlier because I worried about the weather and left myself enough time to drive or take a train, heck I would have hitchhiked if it was the only way to get there,lol, I needed to know those plans were set. I flew Southwest and their change policy is to only charge the difference between original price paid snd current fare on the date changed,so it didn't cost me much extra. They also fly into both Midway and Milwaukee. Milwaukee was a lot cheaper and less traffic. The rental car was also less there. Hope that helps a little.

Mynavybaby they say to try to get their like on a wed. because of the weather in Chicago. in case of any Delays. when we went it was quite nice but we got there wed. and had thurs. to relax or do what we wanted. so that is something to consider. As far as Hotels you can start researching and book if you would like we meaning me & daughter, husband and son in law made reservations for Hotel, air flight, car rental a month before My son's PIR which he Graduated Sept. 1st. Hotels give you at 3 days before you arrive to either cancel or change reservations. Air flight I'm not sure, many say southwest allows you to change without a fee, that would be something to look into. but I am sure there will always be flight available just not sure how expensive they are. Anything can happen between now and then. So honestly its really is up to you. I wish you all the best to you and your New SR.

Anytime, just make sure things can be changed just in case. and the reason I say just in case is because some may have trouble with the swim, or FIT. but they work with them to get them where they need to be before Graduation. Sometimes their Graduation can be pushed back. but I'm sure all will go as planned. Congrats to your New SR.
