Hi! So, this is my first post on this site so I apologize if I do something wrong. Anyway, my friend has been at A school in Florida for about 2 weeks, and I wanted to send him a package of books to keep him entertained (his request, even though he isn't big on reading lmao). I don't know how much he'll appreciate 1984 or Anthem, so I was wondering :

A) how do I mail it? I've only sent letters to him, and I've never sent a box to anyone before. I guess I'd go to the PO and buy a box. When it comes to the address, some internet research has dictated that i should print out an address sticker from the USPS website. The only problem is that my friend gave me an address with 5 lines: name, barracks, street name, ship name (?) , and Pensacola, FL. How do I format this when the USPS address sticker only has room for these lines: name, company, street, apt/suite/other, city, state, ZIP. I understand the state stuff, but what about the barracks and ship?

2) on a less important note, what else can I send him besides books? He's in A school, not yet on a ship, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I was thinking maybe some snacks? But is food allowed? Would I have to do any other work if I wanted to send soemthing like a care package to him?

I'm so sorry for being so annoying, but I just want to make him happy. Any ideas and help would be so appreciated :)
Thank you so much,
Alexandria "Alex"

That's nice that you want to send him a package - and no you aren't being annoying.

The post office has free boxes for shipping "If it fits it ships".  You can either order them online or you can pick them up at your local post office.  They have different sizes.  You can also print the shipping label online.  Here's the link:

You can combine some of the info on the same line and it should still get to him.

There's all kinds of things you can send him - snacks - candy (be careful with chocolate though as it could melt), gum, sunflower seeds, flavored chips, beef jerky, cookies....he might not have a lot of room to store things but he can always share with others too!  Pictures from home are nice.  Just be creative - I'm sure he'll appreciate whatever you send him ;D

Thank you so much!! Those are awesome ideas, I'll make sure to include them! I really appreciate it :D

Here's the link to the Care Package group too - this should give you some more ideas:

Just one more question: how long does it take to ship usually? I was wondering if I send him something like hard candy or starburst, would it melt or nah.

Usually the USPS packages get there in 2 days - I know when I shipped to my son they would (and it didn't matter whether I was shipping to him in South Carolina, New York or Virginia).  Then it just depends on how quickly he can pick it up from the mail room.  I think the hard candy/starburst should be ok.
