What will the first day be like at BC?
See Arrival and What Happens at the RTC and Ship/Division--How it Works.
How long is the "I'm here!" call and when will s/he be able to call again?
In his wallet you can put a book of stamps, a small address book with numbers and addresses social, ID, any bank forms he may have if he has an account already. Things to do before leaving is a great site and will give much needed information.
Anything that I can do to help just ask, I am on this site to help out. Thank You
That would be good, but just know he may not be able to call very much, once he is in BC you will get the call that he has arrived and that is a 2 min. scripted call so if he has a cell phone he can take it so that way he will be able to call and then once he sends his belongings home the phone will be put either in his pockets or shoes and sent as well. you will not hear from him until 2 to 3 weeks later. Just make sure you activate the card before he leaves. I sent you the site phone cards and calls please read that, it will inform you when you may receive a call. I need you to know you will be flooded with emotions and that is Normal, you have to stay busy and be strong. I know it is easier said then done, but cry if need be, we all have done it and still do. Best of Luck to your Son.
