For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Just received a call from my son, 21 yrs. old...they had phone priviledges... He informed us that he had ALL 4 of his wisdom teeth removed!!! He has NEVER had ANY issues with his teeth, never a cavity, never braces, all in line, great looking teeth... even had a dentist appointment a month before leaving, he had specifically asked if there was anything to be concerned about his wisdom teeth. Our dentist said they were all good, no irregular growth or malformation, all grown in already....should be no issues . SO PLEASE, tell me why they would take out perfectly good teeth!!!! REALLY.. I must say that I am NOT a happy mother right now. After all the years I spent making sure that he took care of his teeth....AGHHH and to spend a day or 2 recouping for what??? Please give me some" feel good" info about all of this....REALLY!!!???

Hi Charms Lady, I'm sorry for you being upset. When they first arrive, that is called processing, they get shots, get there eyes checked and teeth. If they noticed his wisdom teeth were coming out they would automatically remove. And if they wear glasses as my son does, they check there eyes and give them there glasses. That is part of their process. But as you mentioned he was fine, so that is strange. Let me see what I can find on that. Wishing your son best wishes and I hope he starts feeling better.

They don’t have dentists on all ships. My son was on a destroyer and deployed for 8 months. No dentist.

Only some of the larger ships, like carriers. Some of the gator freighters carry dental techs. In general, most ships do not have dentists.

Charmzlady, I am worried about the same thing. Not everyone has their wisdom teeth removed. I was lucky I was born without any, but my husband had his removed while in. My daughter is having her braces removed right before shipping out and has no issues with her wisdom teeth, so I am really hoping they don't pull them. What a waste to have teeth removed after braces allowing more movement for them to potentially shift again. I'm hoping that because she'll have a retainer with her, that maybe they'll consider holding off. Now that the shoe is on the other foot as a (Navy veteran) mom watching my daughter prepare to go, it's things like this with your son that make me mad for you! They still do preventative things to the masses that make no sense or aren't necessarily evidence based. Navy dental stories are a beast all their own.
