Hi guys! I was wondering if sailors have restrictions for Liberty on the weekend of their PIR. I want to plan our day out and I just don't know if there is a travel restriction for how far they can go during Liberty. I want to spend as much time as I can with my sailor but I don't really know the rules for Liberty. He is staying in GL for A School. Please help me out. :) Thanks!

Good Morning I want to say they cannot go 50 miles from Base, they are briefed before Liberty, so more than likely all Sailors will know. I know when I attended it was 50 miles. not sure if it has changed. They are also breifed on going to Chicago because of the traffic, but again it is totally up to you. Fridayaround 2:30 or 3 when we picked up our Sailor for Liberty we just went out to eat, but you do have Sat. and Sun. They do need to be signed out and signed back in. and also there could be a line for both just a heads up.
kaj123 here is the site also Ma'am for more info, that may give you an Idea. I know that is what we were told so Like I had mentioned I don't know if it has changed.
Thought you might also like this, has information as to what phases there are on Base for GL A school.
What time do your sailors finally get to leave base for liberty? Trying to plan our day.
4BoysinMaine, Liberty is called at 10:30 and those who will be flying out get to leave then. Those who are staying in GL will have a little bit of time with relatives in the Drill Hall and then will head back to their ships and head across the street to check in, which takes 2 to 5 hours. See the info in PIR Day and Liberty during PIR Weekend to help you know how to plan your weekend. Check your My Page.
Thank you!
You are very welcome.
Hi 4anchors, basically when you speak or write to your Loved One ask, they will be the only ones knowing there flight information. Looks like he may be flying to San Antonio, so Your Sailor will most likely fly out to "A" School the day after PIR. Plan to leave late Saturday or on Sunday if you are able. See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) to help you know how to plan your weekend. What PIR weekend may be like for those flying out of GL
About a week before PIR send your recruit an index card to write down the flight details and then s/he can give it to you after PIR. Sailors or loved ones have gotten so excited that they have gotten details confused so this may prevent that.
If you want to put something on the index card, you could put the following:
Please fill this out when you get your final orders and then give it to us at PIR. Do not mail it.
