Hi all -

My only son left for bootcamp on Tuesday (May 8th).  He went to bootcamp 4 years ago but was medically released.  He had to come home and have surgery to fix a birth defect found by the naval doctor which literally saved his life.  Now he has gone back in.  I'm thrilled and proud but also emotional.  He has worked so hard to get back in and now I've learned the PT requirements have changed and that if he doesn't pass his run immediately he'll be sent back home again and that's it.  That would mean 4 years of work for nothing.  In short, I'm terrified.  He's in much better physical shape than when he went in 4 years ago, but what if he cramps or freezes or whatever?!  I hear they do their first run on the 5th business day which would mean he'll do his first run on Tuesday (in 3 days).  I'm literally praying every day that he makes it.  I want so much for him to be successful.  He has worked so hard and this is his dream.  Just writing this note has me in tears so I'll sign off.  Anyway, sending prayers to our future sailors that they remember to relax and "run happy".  God bless you all and our wonderful children who have chosen to serve our great nation.

My son shipped out on the 9th and arrived early on the 10th.  From what I've read on N4M regarding the form letter, they will have two opportunities to successfully complete their run.  If they fail the first opportunity, they will get bumped to a different incoming division and try again a few days later.  This would also explain a little bit of a delay in their letter to you.  Keep in mind no news is good news right now.  Fingers crossed he is successful; thinking of you and him both!

Thank you so much for your kind words and support!  I hope they're all successful the first try so they can relax and so can we!  Do you have any idea what percentage don't pass the first time?  The second time?  UGH!

It doesn't matter what the percentages are; it depends on if your recruit is ready--I would hope that the percentages of those that are passing on the first try are getting higher than they were earlier this year since the recruiters should be aware of the change that occurred in January (actually in the fall to take affect in January) and should be sending the new recruits to MEPS ready for BC. Hopefully your recruit was ready this time and he will pass the run on the first try this week.

There is info in Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) and Fitness Improvement Training (FIT) for you.

TruBritt, the info you gave is close to correct. See Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) and Fitness Improvement Training (FIT).

The Form Letter now arrives around ten to fourteen business days after the recruit's arrival at the RTC since it is not mailed until after the recruit passes the first PFA. Arrival and What Happens at the RTC within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) will let you know what is happening and what to expect.

I left info for you on your My Page.

Thank you so much!  I looked over the info you left and hopefully made the changes successfully.

You are very welcome.
