OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

...she is wanting to get tats that signify members of the family, I know it's her choice , the problem I have is placement. one on ankle and one on top of foot. they are coverable as far as the Navy is concerned but what about when she gets out or wants to dress up in a dress and strappy heels or just shorts and flip-flops. Guess i'm just old fashion.. granted I have thought about it for myself, even went into a shop and talked to the artist, just couldn't bring myself to find something that i wanted on my body for the rest of my life, covered or not.
I know it's her life and her body, and if one of my two sons wanted one later in life i probably wouldn't have such a problem with it.... just the momma of my babygirl coming out in me i guess.

Tattoos are big in A school. My son is 19 and his roommate is 23. They have been at A school for 6 weeks and by the 2nd week my son's roommate had already gotten a tattoo. Of course mine wants one too. I don't see that it's a big deal, I have 3 myself, BUT I was 44 when I got my first one...so I said, ok, when you are 44 you have have one LOL Well, that didn't work. Sooooo I convinced him that when we come out to visit him in the spring I will take him to the lady who did mine, I trust her and she does great work and he was OK with that. I do plan on taking to my lady, I know he wont be getting anything bad or nasty and it has to be so it cannot be seen with their uniforms on. Tell your daughter that her tat should have some special meaning to her. Tell her to think long and hard about deciding on a tat, it's with you forever.

My son entered BC with just 3. Now there's too many to count. Arms, legs, chest and back. I love them. He has some great artwork on human canvas. I have 3 myself and when he comes home next on leave, we plan on getting Mother and Son tattoos. P.S. His girlfriend used to date an artist and has some beautiful work herself. Just tell your daughter no flash. Really think about what she wants. Look through magazines, art books etc. and make sure the person who does her work has a portfolio she can look at to decide whether or not she likes his/her style. Good luck!

My son Mike got his initials on his back and a caduce on his arm. They both are in good taste as far as I am concerned and not gaudy. He got his initials when he graduated bc and then when he graduated corpsman school he and a couple of buddies got their caduces (med insignia). So in my opinion as long as they are in good taste and have special meaning and not radical and all over their bodies I dont see a problem with them.Laura

My dad was in the Navy in the early 60's. He had a small (very small) anchor on his left shoulder when he crossed the equator the first time. Now my son, 18, wants one too while at GL. But we told him to wait. Ask them if they gain 50 pounds, would it still be attractive to them? It may not be such an issue then.

When my son joined the Navy that is one of the first things I asked him, Do you have to swear like a sailor and get a tattoo? lol So far its been nine months and he don't have one.If he decides to get one, I will love him the same. just really hope he chooses not too. ps i pray he dont swear even more.

My sons and I went together for tattoos. Than my oldest took up the art, gave his brother a couple till he enlist and the Navy said no more tatts, so you child may want to check into the rules before he goes tattin. All three of us have 4 leaf clovers on us......If they are over 18 not much you can say,

My son started begging me for a tat when he was 16. I told him so sorry but that I would not sign off on it & then have him regret doing it later. I told him that he would have to wait until he turned 18 & then it would be all on him. I also told him that if he was going to mark up his body that he really needed to think about what it was going to be and that it should really mean something to him & come from his soul. On his 18th birthday I went with him to get it. I know someone who does them & completly trust him. My son took those 2 years & decided on an atheme(dagger) with wings & the saying "pain is weakness leaving the body". The dagger is the pain & the wings are taking it from the body. It is on my page if you would like to see it. It is on the uper part of his arm so it is easy to cover. I told him that he should not get it where it can always be seen because there are many employers who wont like it. Good luck to you.

I have one thats my son's names and goes around my ankle and one on my other ankle too. Most times people don't even notice them.

My son went in with 3 and has been in for 1 1/2yrs. now and has 7. They are very nice looking, but it is there decision. They all look very nice and well done. But I think he is out of room lol.

my daughter has been in a little over 2 years- she is a seabee- i am a nurse and i've always said that tats will come back to haunt you- saw one several years ago that said grade a beef on a young man and thought by the time he gets to the nursing home it should be changed to aged beef- but anywho when my beautiful girl was home on her first leave- she called the quarterdeck to get permission to get one- it is small and since it on her hiney it is usually concealed- but i have to say that it really is cute- it is a seabee-

I am not in favor of tattoos, however when Aaron went to Japan, one of the first things he did was get two tattoos! One on his back and one on his upper arm. Since he has such a great body, toned, muscular I do have to admit they look good on him. Last year he got his last name tattooed with the family crest, that one he did while on leave at home in NJ. I have reminded him these may not look so cool when he's 70, but it's his body, and his decision.
