Hello N4M Members!
I don’t often start threads and put them on the top of the page like this but it’s important and I need everyone to read it. We’ll be enforcing some new rules starting today per direction of the Navy. No need to get upset or panic… okay? I like to call this the growing pains of getting bigger and needing to become a bit stricter about a few things.

1. So, Navy saw it as a breach of security on N4M’s when members were telling other members how to bend and break the rules (IE get into PIR w/o a parking pass). Thus, any tricks like that can’t be talked about. We don’t want to jeopardize the safety of our recruits. This also includes, “I have more than 4 people that want to attend PIR”. If we see that question- the response should be something like:
“Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, IL is the homeport for all Navy recruit training. If you have specific questions regarding Boot Camp, Pass-in-Review (graduation) or a recruit, please visit http://www1.netc.navy.mil/nstc/rtcgl/family/index.html. If you cannot find the answer there, please phone RTC Public Affairs on 847-688-2405 or email on rtc.pao@navy.mil.”

2. Sailor last names are not allowed to be posted. We know in this day and age, that often your children have different last names than you. So, it’s up to you on if you want your last name on here or not, but the Navy is telling us- Do not post sailors last name. You can say my son’s name is John. Just not John Smith.
For people that want to now change their user name... you can find out how to do it here.

3. Remove physical addresses of sailors. (Exception to the rule is FPO address).
It’s not necessarily that our sailors don’t want to be contacted by our sweet Navy Members…it’s more that we have to be sensitive to their privacy. Even if you wanted to post your sailor’s address or your sailor’s friends address, please don’t.

4. Please do not post any names/numbers of the RTC Staff.

So, obviously- easy quick changes on your end. Please go through your profiles, posts, photos, groups, events and videos to make sure the above is deleted and/or edited out. Obviously, I’ll be going through and deleting things as well but it’s helpful if you look over your own stuff.

Thank you for reading this and editing/deleting any of your comments in advance.

Thanks for this info will pass it along when needed.
Hi all, I need some help, please! I am trying to remove my "sir" name from my profile, but I keep getting an error message, I went to edit, changed the profile, then when I take out my last name put in initials, and hit save I get an error response, and the entire profile reverts back to the original(with last name) Thanks for any help
Catherine,
Thanks for all you do with N4M's. What would we do without you and N4M's to keep our sanity! I have changed one of my pictures that I didn't realize had his name in it. (Thought I had edited all of them, but must have missed one) Anyway, not to sound stupid but with these new guidelines am I correct in understanding that we can no longer post anything about WHERE they are stationed? I just want to be sure so I am not breaking the rules. I wouldn't want to be banned from my favorite site!
I think if there was a new rule that where (or what ship) a Sailor is assigned to is no longer allowed info, then I think half the groups on this site would have to be deleted (with all the individual ship groups being formed). And if that were to be the case, then this site would be pretty useless for me. I believe that so long as we keep to using first names in direct posts, then it's all pretty annonymous.

One of the huge benefits of this site is to allow families to "connect" along like interests and things in common, and one of those are to find other families who have Sailors at the same duty station. After boot camp and A & C school, THAT is where one REALLY finds support.
See previous post on this tread, Catherine is NOT deleting ship groups. Or any groups.
Thanks for clarifying, that's good to know.

Steve's Mom:

does this mean that all ship groups will be deleted?

No. I have asked the same question.
I talked about this on previous pages- but saying Joe is on the USS Whatever and is a MAA- is like saying Catherine is on NAVYForMoms.com and is the Admin. Or Ryan is at Harvard and going into Law. It's people trying to connect.

I don't want last names. I don't want ship movements. Rules should be very clear in guidelines. But please let me know if they aren't. CC
Thanks for the info. It was a little disconcerting the first time my son had to tell me he couldn't answer my qeustion because it was classified information. I fully understand and support him in that. His sister still gets a little miffed and tries to wheedle an answer out of him anyway, but he just laughs at her. I will go along with and support anything that will help keep my boy, his shipmates and my country safe!
thx!
Thanks Catherine. I've reviewed my page and made a few changes to comply. Thanks for keeping us all in line for the sake of our sailors!
All noted. We will do our very best to abide. We need to remember what may be in jeopardy. Thank you for the gift of reminding us.
THE RULES ARE THERE FOR A REASON TO KEEP THEM SAFE
