Hi,

Well we are down to our final weekend at home and I'm trying to keep it together.  I'm an emotional person to begin with and the tears are going to be flowing heavily next Monday.

Anyone else have a son or daughter starting next week Monday?  Would love to connect with you as "we" go thru this process.

my son just left on Monday. it was really rough. we went out to eat with his friends the evening before. the distraction helped. we stopped asking if he was nervous..and just tried to "be" with him. I painted my bathroom, baseboards, and have cleaned out a bunch of old drawers. The YouTube bootcamp howto's have been helpful. I feel connected with him.

Hi Amy.....thank you for writing about your son.   Hope he does well in BC.  I see you have taken on the same plan as what I'm going to do next week. ..keep busy with projects.   We will be first time empty nesters come Monday night.   Will be so very strange although my son doesn't really hang out with us or talk to us anyways.  Just knowing he's not here and not being able to reach him will be weird.  I know I'm going to be a blubbering mess when we have to say goodbye.  Do you have other kids at home yet?

Hello OldCluck64- Welcome to the site. One gift that made a huge difference for us n our son was the following. Get a 3x5in spiral bound notebook, not bigger, because it has to fit in his"sock"where he will store his belongings. Have all family, friends, brothers/ sisters in Christ write an encouraging message, messages of love or Bible scripture, a funny memory that will bring him a chuckle, a joke, etc.. These words will carry a SR through the first few nights in BC before receiving actual letters because he will have your special words to read every night. And start writing letters of encouragement n love n prayer for him now so u can send them immediately once u get the form letter with his actual address. Hint: number each letter u write so he knows which one to read first if they arrive in muliples. Hope this helps.

My son is currently on his first deployment and believe it or not, he treasures this notebook n reads it at night whenever he needs it.

God bless.

Hello,

That is such an awesome idea unfortunately we have no time to get that done as we leave tomorrow,  technically today since it's after midnight here.   On second thought who knows, maybe I could sneak to the store down the road and have family members text me their thoughts and good wishes to him.   Thank you for the suggestion!

Welcome Oldcluck64 to Navy Moms. Here on this site you will find that you are never alone, and you have met some of the Wonderful Moms that will be by your side. Congratulations to your New SR.

Hi,

I've already learned a lot and have had two wonderful mom's, Chipmunk & lemonelephant, help me with my numerous questions.   We are leaving tomorrow 8/5 and I am still in shock that he's really leaving.   I know this will be a wonderful opportunity for him but that doesn't mean I am not going to bawl like a baby.   After he begins BC I am sure I will be on this site everyday researching and of course asking more questions.   Feeling emotional & overwhelmed right now......

My son left yesterday emotional is an understatement

Hi Ebony,

I agree with you...this is such an emotional time for us mom's & dad's.  I think it is mainly the fact that we have absolutely no communication with them.  I was just reading another post where the mom stated she received her son's letter and she feels worse.  Made me cry thinking about what they are going through.  My SIL was just discharged, hopefully that's the correct word for it, 3 years ago and he has said everything they do is for a reason.  It has definitely helped me to read that the RDC's bring them down individually and build them back up as a division.  Also, that about half way through the SR's are starting to figure things out and how things work and hopefully things are a little bit easier for them.  Boy I want these weeks to fly by.

My son left on the 6th as well.  Got my "I'm here" phone call late that night, and since then I've kind of been in a daze.  I miss him a ton, but am happy for him and just pray he does well and is still glad he made this decision.

Hi Sunshinyday....Thank you for messaging me about your son also leaving on the 8/6.  I was hoping to connect with other mom's whose SR is starting at the same time.  It would be great to share when you receive the box, the Form Letter, etc.

We live fairly close to Great Lakes and the MEPS and actually our ride home was longer than my son's ride to GL.  I think he left around 12:30 ish and I got his "I'm here. I love you too" call just before 2:00 p.m. that same day.  We are missing our son so much too.  He's our baby and has 2 older sisters who have both been out of the house since 2011.  It just feels so strange in the house right now.  I am shedding tears every day, we're on Day 3 but who's counting, lol, yet I am incredibly proud of him for making this difficult decision and although we weren't on board at first we certainly are now.  He kind of took us by surprise when enlisting.

From my understanding they all pretty much regret joining that first week or two.  I guess that's where we come in and try to pump them up and encourage them the best we can.

This website has been and I am sure will continue to be a great comfort as we wait for PIR to arrive.

My daughter left for boot camp on 8/8/18

OldCluck64 - hope things are going well for you. Have your received your form letter yet? It may still be a little bit with the new PT requirements.

Keep hanging in there.
