Good Morning, this is my first time posting.  My youngest son will be in the August 24th PIR.  I've shed many tears since leaving him after the enlistment ceremony.  I know that he is in a good place and cannot wait to see him.  Our family is so truly proud!  How do you handle the tears that seem to come so often when you think about them?

If you haven't joined the PIR group for August 24th yet, please join us!  Here is the link: PIR August 24, 2018 TG 42 - 11 Divisions (321-324, 327-332, and 942)

My son is also in the 8/24 PIR.  He is Division 329.  This is my oldest son though, and he turned 25 in the second week of boot camp, so it has been a little easier on me...even though I still miss being able to talk to him on a regular basis!

If you are a spiritual person, you could say a quick prayer for him every time you think of him.  That is what I decided to do after my son left.

Thank you CarlaB, every day I say a Hail Mary, Our Father and Glory Be.  I also work in a Children's Hospital so I have a Chapel on site which I am very fortunate to have available.  I visit daily and put in a prayer intention every day.  Thank you so much for the advice.  God Bless your son and mine, they are doing a great service for our country.

Momof5 - I was in your place last year, except mine was my oldest son but #4 of 5 kids. I also had two weddings last year, two estates I was dealing with and just a lot of other activities and things with my other children so I stayed pretty busy. My son's rating is one that has him doing a lot of school so I knew that if I could just get through BC that we would have more opportunities for talking. That didn't make it easier.

I wrote emails to him that I then printed out and mailed. But every time I opened up an email to send to him, his picture showed up with his smiling face and that helped a lot. I also agree with CarlaB, if you are a spiritual person, prayer can be one of the best connections that we have with our children. My son still calls or texts and asks for prayers before his tests. I think for me the fact that I was praying helped me feel like I was actually doing something that even though it wasn't tangible, I believed could still make a difference for him and so it helped me "feel" like I was doing something.

Definitely join the PIR group and also BC Mom if you haven't already, there is a lot of information to read and find out about attending PIR.

Welcome Aboard!

Thank you so much, your advice is a blessing and I am grateful.  I will definitely join the groups you suggested, it helps greatly knowing that I am definitely not the only one going through this.  Thanks for the support!

Momof5, I think Moms always feel this way at the very beginning but it gets a lot better when you get to write to them and they get to write back to us too & of course getting a call when you hear their voice :) My husband & daughter could not understand how I was feeling even though they were also missing him as well. You've come to the right place where you have the support from these wonderful ladies here! I also did a lot prayer for my son and for all our sons & daughters who are in BC, A school & their duty stations. May God bless, guide & protect them on this journey with the Navy & we Moms continue to support & encourage them too.

I am so truly thankful to have found this site.  You ladies are amazing, I'm feeling better just reading all of your comments.  I thought perhaps I was the only one feeling this way and yes, my family really doesn't understand how I tear up at the memory on facebook that he is listed on, or the fact that I completely lost it yesterday when his letter came.  Prayers do certainly help.  Thank you so very much.

Momof5 this part is the hardest, but everything will be fine and believing staying positive and mainly keeping busy will help. You have come to the right place. I've been in a year and 1month the missing part never goes away, but I can say we do get stronger. I can remember how I cried so much for my Son, him being the baby and all my girls (older than him) just couldn't understand nor my husband. I truly believe it's a mom thing, but this site had brought so much comfort to me and I was truly thankful for finding it. Best wishes to all of our Loved Ones no matter where they are and may the Lord be by there side guiding them every step of the way.

My son left for boot camp on August 6 proud momma

You should be, these young men and women are to be shown gratitude and respect for their commitment and service.  Praying for all of them as they embark on this wonderful journey that they all have stamina, strength focus and know that they are each loved so very much.

Ladies, my sailor was meant to graduate on 8/24, but was sent back 2 weeks for failing a big test. Thought I am very encouraging to him and believe he can do it, I am so down and afraid for him. He called to tell us and was crying. My heart sank. All I could think was his friends will go on without him. Anyway l’m sure things will get better.
Hope every sailor is doing well.

Keep the faith, sometimes little bumps in the road are there to test us/them.  I'll keep him in my prayers and you as well.  Just keep encouraging him as you are and we will all make sure he is included in our prayers daily.  This is just a minor setback and he'll make other "friends" and those that move on I am certain he will keep in touch with.  Hang in there - HUGS!
