My son left today for boot camp. I'm a wreck, I'm so proud of him which is hard to tell through all the tears. How long does this crying thing last??

Hi Stephy - can't say how long the crying will last. I mean once our kids leave home do we ever really get over it?

I left the link to the boot camp group in the welcome message on your page.  Be sure to join that group - you'll find lots of useful info there.  And once you receive the official form letter (anywhere from 9-14 days) you'll know his PIR date and you can join that group too.  Be sure to keep your phone handy (and the volume on high) at all times as you never know when a call might come in - answer all calls!  You'll get a 30 second scripted call later today/tonight letting you know he arrived safely.  Count Fridays rather than individual days - it helps the time go by faster.  Hang in there......there's plenty of mom's here that have been where you are now.

Hey Stephy,
My son has been gone 3 weeks today and I understand completely. I have gone from crying daily to every couple of days. This website is very encouraging and supportive. Stay connected.

Momma Bear - have you received your official letter yet with his PIR date?

I'm new to all the acronyms, what's PIR?

PIR - Pass in Review (graduation).

Here's a link to some Navy terms and acronyms (brush up on them so you can surprise your sailor with your Navy knowledge!):

My son also left today for bootcamp! I am located in Houston Texas and the is my second time dealing with this. I am anxious because this son is the quiet one so I am more protective over him. It’s going to be a long 8 weeks but graduation will be awesome. I will pray for all of the future sailors.

Hi Sheree - be sure to join the boot camp group - I left the link in the Welcome message on your page ;-D

Thank you :)

Thank You!
