For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

For a lot of the recruits this is the hardest thing they've ever done. Plus the holidays add stress and emotion. Hopefully by the time you get your second call, he'll be past the initial shock of this whole new life.
When you write him, remind him why he chose this and remind him that you believe in him.
And if it doesn't work out for him, let him know it's okay with you, no negative judgement,he just needs a different path to success.

Hi Jodi , my heart goes out to you . I’m so sorry for your son . I will pray for him and you too ! It will get better for him I’m sure . My daughter got to BC on Nov 20 th . I have not gotten a call yet or a letter . Missing her so much , but very proud of her . Hang in there

I know. I keep telling myself no news is good news but it’s definitely a challenge to be patient . Just try to stay positive as much as you can and hang in there !

Jodi B, that first phone call is always the hardest. When my son called home in the background I could hear other people crying and such. Also heard the RDC yelling at them that if they kept crying that they wouldn't be able to stay on. Though his voice cracked a couple of times when we talked to him. He did not cry because he wanted to talk to us.
You did great by encouraging him. Just keep that going, it is so hard to be away from home. Doesn't matter the time (thought holiday are tougher), they are in a new environment, people are yelling and screaming at them. Nothing they seem to do is right but it is all for a cause to get them ready for the fleet. That first phone call is always really hard (talking from personal experience-I told my mom, I made a huge mistake and was ready to come home). It is so hard to hear your child crying and not be there to fix it.
Hopefully, the next call you get he will feel more confident about his surroundings. It took a little bit for my son to fill like he was finally understanding how things worked.

Thank you so much for that! It sure is tough to adjust but I am so relieved to report I got four letters since that call. Two were just about the same but a bit worse as the one your son wrote and then two that are very positive and he has gotten himself squared away. He feels so much better and is encouraged feeling that he will graduate and that this was not a mistake. Boy I never imagined the emotional rollercoaster this is. Thank you again that was much needed.
