GM All, Dropped off my son last night at the hotel. He left this morning & took the shuttle to MEPS with the other recruits. He has a long day ahead but I know he will be fine. He waited until the last min to take care of things like his POAs & setting up phone cards but we got everything done. I was happy he pre-packed what he wants me to bring when I come for graduation. Now just waiting for his call which I know won't be until later. Thanks for all of the helpful advice that you ladies post every day. I feel like I'm as prepared as I can be thanks to you!

Hang in there ! The first few days seemed to be really tough fir me personally . Our daughter left just over 2 weeks ago . It is a little better than the first week but anxiously waiting for a phone call . Hopefully soon . Best wishes to your son !
Thank you Jeanie! Yeah I'm thankful for the chance to chat with him today bc I know in a few hours I will be missing him.
Yep you will miss him a lot ! It helps that we have each other because it’s tough and other people don’t really understand .
@Jeanie, I got my I made it safely call at 11:56 EST I was half sleep but yelled I LOVE YOU while he was talking LOL. We were able to text up until he was at the airport in Chicago. I'm happy to have this group who understands. Although many of my FB friends have been great support.

My daughter ships out in a couple weeks.  What are some of the things your son pre-packed and why are phone cards needed?

Hi Carol - your daughter will need the phone card to make calls home from boot camp.  It's best if you can buy the card and send it with her rather than waiting for her to buy one at the NEX when she gets there.  Make sure it is a card that can be used on "pay phones" not cell phones.

The recruiter told my son he didn’t need a prepaid card .  He is already at Boot Camp I don’t know what to do now.

He should be able to buy a card at the NEX.  It's just easier if they take one with them.  Don't worry about!

I grabbed 1 from Walgreens but they can purchase them.

@Carol: He packed up a few items but mainly his laptop, a few essential toiletries & regular clothes (2 outfits) & pair of shoes. Since the bag they take to RTC has the bare minimum. I will double check it tho & let you know.

Great, thank you!

Regina126, Carol and Jackie-- Welcome!  You may want to make sure you are also on the Main BC Page.

Regina126 Today is Arrival day and does not count toward BC days.  As you know you will get a phone call in the Wee hours of the morning most likely.  Just talk over him and let him know how proud you are and how much you love him and that he's got this and ...... Whatever else you need to say.  If he took a cell phone you can ask him to call when he's off the plane and you can visit until he get ready to board the bus to GL.
Tomorrow will be P1 (Processing Day One)  Saturday and Sunday will be P-hold days.  He should take the First PFA on Wednesday or Thursday of next week and he should be in his Ship on Friday assuming he passed on the first try.  He will write the form letter that day so you should be looking at getting the address around the 19th or 20th (Depending on where you are in relation to GL).  In the meantime you can write lots of letters and make sure you number them.  Keep your phone hand and the ringer on LOUD at all times since you never know....

Carol and Jackie,  If you cannot find a phone card that works for Pay Phones (They are more rare than they should be!) do not panic.  They can buy one at GL but they then have to activate it there and if they have any problems it just reduces the time they get to talk to you.  Answer all calls no matter the area code because the calling card calls will come from all over!

Thanks so much @belovedbyHim! He just texted me telling me he arrived to Chicago safely. I have my phone ready for my call. And I'm already on the regular BC page those ladies are awesome!
