My daughter was set to go to boot camp in September in the Reserves. She received a call from her recruiter that 200 recruits were cut nationwide and she could reapply in the fall, most likely October. No other explanation. I am not understand this - she was sworn in, job selected and ready to go. And now she will have to take her asvab & go through meps all over again. Words cannot express how disappointed she is. She has been in NJROTC for 4 years, is drill captain and in their top 5. Her Commander was in contact with the Navy that she would be presented with an award after completing boot camp. I'm not sure if there is anything we can do but wondering if anyone else has been through this.

I may be mistaken, but I think the ASVAB tests are valid for two years. She may just need to go in for job selection etc at the later date,. It isn't unusual for delays to happen, especially now, but I don't think much has changed except report date being delayed.

There is nothing you can do except wait.

Desirab, I am sorry that you daughter has had this delay. I know the "hurry up and wait" is something that some of the other non-reservist recruits have gone through in the past, from things that I have read on this site. My assumption is that because she is just going reserves, instead of enlisted (and I don't honestly know a lot of how that process works with the Navy - my husband was Army reserves), they are probably putting a hold on reservists heading to BC, primarily because of the COVID concerns and the issues that it has brought with putting the recruits into quarantine, etc. I admire your daughter's desire to go into the military and to do reserves, but my gut feeling is that it is likely they are trying to get more enlisted into the flow, due to them holding off on training for a time, than putting too many reservists through BC that will not be active duty. Just my opinion and assumption, but I thought I would share my thoughts. I would think that her recruiter would be able to give her a better idea of what is going on, but maybe not.

She just needs to keep her chin up, keep her physical activity up and do the best she can to deal with the time adjustment. As I said, I have heard of similar delays with recruits in the DEP program that were going enlisted, so I am not surprised to hear it happening in reserves as well.
