Hello
We look forward to hearing about your sailors journey. How he/she likes being an MAA (MA) and which kind of job they are doing and how you are doing knowing what your sailor does for a living.
NOTE: Please help keep our sailors safe. Don't give out exact locations.Example: If he/she is in Iraq you can say Iraq but I would not say the name of the camp or a town near the camp. If they are on a ship don't give the last known location. Although some of that is public we don't in anyway want to jeopardize them.

C’smom ~ I am beyond excited for your sailor and your family. It’s about time! Hopefully he hears EXTRA good news after he gets to school.

Comment by C'sMom on December 17, 2020 at 2:05pm

Now I'm getting my hopes up that he will get to come home for at least a few days like the rest of them at A school.

I posted this on the Bootcamp group, but I'm putting it here, too. After 5 weeks since graduation, my Sailor snap chatted us this at 9:30 this morning.  He said he is going to PAC fleet and believes he will fly out tomorrow.  I hope he's correct!

C'sMom -- so happy he got it looked into & can move on to the next step!!!  not sure how my sailor got to the base but, I know he said he didn't fly commercial so maybe that is why...they handled it.  The commercial airport is not too far from the base so that is a plus too.  Prayers for Both of you!!  Hang in there.  He is getting it done!!!  Crossing fingers for the stand down & him getting to head home for a bit.   Still not sure if it will happen with all the dang Co-Vid crap...but we can hope & pray.

Wish I had known about the chance to get a cheaper ticket with DOD # someone posted in the bootcamp group but, I don't have his # as never thought to ask --- learning as we go here needless to say...

We bought his tickets as yes, they get paid but, he also had to buy a laptop computer with part of his earnings & he has listened to his middle sister in setting up $ for his savings plan (retirement) & paying into the GI Bill so.... And he also has his car note plus insurance he pays each month.  I won't buy his tickets every time but, this time I did.  It is not that we have the disposable $ (read none) & live on very limited means,  but getting a chance to see him is the BEST gift the whole family could get.  We have no extended family close & so it has always been pretty much just dh, myself & our 3 kiddos.

It is definitely a personal choice so having him pay for it or if you pay for the tickets more than OKAY!

Hugs!!!

Update on my sailor and I posted this same thing on the bootcamp group:  He finally knows why he's being held in THU!  He had Covid watch this morning and someone that works with records and such asked him if he knew why he was in THU.  He said no, so she told him to go see her after his watch.  He found out his medical and dental records never got transferred from his old division before the second quarantine to the new division after.  He said those files will be turned in today and his packet can then be completed.  They will be putting him on the next flight that they can.  So he shouldn't be there for much longer.  Isn't it amazing how God works things out?!?!  Such a simple thing that no one took care of.  If he'd known, it could have been taken care of a long time ago.  I told him God had a reason.  He may never know what that reason is, or he might!  But God is in control.

So I told him that once he gets to San Antonio and finds out about Christmas leave, to let us know so that we can get his plane tickets ordered.  How do they get from the base to the airport?  And since he is Reserves, he will be flying home after A school, so should we order him changeable tickets? (is that what they are called?)  NewMilmom said refundable tickets are twice as much.

So the latest from my sailor today was that he heard that Texas, as a state, was shutting down.  Someone in the compartment was talking to someone on his phone and heard that.  Hoping it's a wild rumor.

And then on weekdays from 1430 to 1530, he can stand in line to go check his status.  He doesn't know why he's being held.  He said if it's a medical hold, it probably just means he needs to request some medical paperwork through red rover so the civilian office can send it in.  One day he couldn't go because they were waxing the floors.  Another day, he just didn't try (I have no idea why). The next day, he stood in line but it took too long and ran out of time.  Yesterday, he was first in line.  The guy came out and asked him what he was waiting for.  My sailor told him, and he replied, "Too bad" and put up a sign that said status checks could only now be done on Fridays from 08 to 09.  He's so frustrated.  I'm really hoping he's not stuck there through Christmas and his birthday (27th) because then he probably won't get down there until two weeks after Christmas.  And we won't be able to send him any mail or anything for Christmas or his birthday.  This is starting to bum me more than his second ROM.  He's so bored, and I'm worried about his morale.

C'sMom - he flew to A school (not commercial) and has been in holding pattern...last he stated was that there was giant backup of Sailors waiting to start classes & due to covid distance requirements class size reduced. And the number he was given was there were like 100 Sailors waiting for classes before him ...oh bother!  And he was to get liberty to fly home for part of the break...pray that holds up needless to say.

We bought a changeable ticket (refundable was 2x price) so figured I'll just pay change fees if need to.

Last we heard from him was Thanksgiving.  He went & purchased a laptop computer for himself & said he was playing games to pass some of the time...the sit & wait is a killer but, nothing we can do about it.  He has not been given an address where we can mail anything to him either...Otherwise I could send him cards/notes & a few goodies to pass the time a bit.

Sent a couple text messages saying hello & sending love but, that is all I can do for now.

Once he starts actual classes I know he will be much happier (as will I).

No News is Good News

VintageGal - I think your Sailor got there before my boy did...Hoping that mine can start soon in the actual classes too. Or at least work on his qualifications that you speak of.

Vintage - Yes time will go by much quicker for him starting tomorrow. My son said he loves it and the day fly's by. He did tell me last night that training has changed from the traditional. The only written test they have taken is end of week 1 weapons block which should be what you son starts tomorrow. It's a more in depth training with the service pistol they fired at BC. From my understanding the whole week is dedicated to it. Week 2 is qualifying on rifle and week 3 is shotgun. I spoke with him today and he said they do night fire tonight on all 3 weapons. He said he's only taken 1 written test because this is "Covid edition" of MA training LOL

NewMilmom ~ It's so great seeing another MA mom on here! My son is also waiting for his classes to start. He heard that they'll begin on Thursday. He's been working on qualifications that need to be signed off on in the meantime.

C'smom - I made sure that we bought a refundable plane ticket just in case. We picked the dates of Dec 18th - 26th. He wanted to be back a day because apparently on time is considered late and you never know if there will be flight hold ups. Any word from your sailor?

Kim/Troy - My son hasn't classed up just yet. He's hoping to start tomorrow. He's pretty bored besides doing his qualifications. We sent him his Xbox but as soon he starts class he'll be pretty busy studying. Since he has a girlfriend he hasn't played video games for a loooong time. He requested it because he also knows that he'll have quarantine after Christmas break.

Hey, NewMilMmom,  i didn't realize your sailor was MA, too!  He's at A school now, correct?  When did he graduate?
