OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

SoS - this is actually a really good question, I don't know that we have had anyone ask this before.
I am not one of the Admins on this site but I have been around for about 5 years now. I will reach out to a couple of others and see if anyone knows that answer. If your sailor is flying out of GL for A school, I suggest you read my discussion that should still be visible. Well, actually, you just bumped it out of the queue with your question, but that is okay.
This is what life was like for our PIR weekend - What PIR weekend may be like for those flying out of GL - Navy For ... - No one's experience is going to be exactly the same. I believe they have started transporting the sailors to their A schools via commercial flights again. You can read my post and I explain how we met our sailor, at the USO very early (like 2 AM) in the morning.
If your sailor is flying out from GL, he most likely will not be given his phone back until just prior to them leaving, maybe late that night. I am not certain. They stay the evening on the RTC BC side and no cell phones are allowed in sleeping quarters. So, he might need to borrow a phone from someone else to call you to even let you know where to come pick him up after PIR.
If his orders have him flying out the day after, he won't have a lot of time to spend with you after PIR.
If he has not left for BC yet, you might have him ask his recruiter if they can get any clarification regarding whether unvaccinated family can check out sailors, for liberty. He will not be allowed to spend the night, most likely. That privilege I think is still only being offered to those staying in GL for A school and it can be revoked at any time.

Good Morning,
One of the other moms shared with me that back when our sailors were at PIR, sailors would invite friends to join them for liberty if they didn't have family. There is no way to be able to coordinate this for sure, even before arriving for PIR, but it is a possibility that maybe he could leave with another family, and you could meet him later. That family would need to also return him to base.
I really don't know - especially when the entire point of the vaccination validation is their effort to protect the sailors. (Like it or not - they signed up for the military and the families as well as the service members have to abide by the mandates set forth by the individual commands.)
Another possibility, which is more of what I have heard lately, families are waiting to visit their loved ones once they get to their A school and can have some liberty time there.

SOS Survivor 45, welcome to the group. My son's graduation was the first canceled during Covid so we couldn't take him anywhere but we did get his flight information and met him at the airport, got passes for the gate and spent several hours with him. That first hug was amazing. I hope you can get a few hours with yours as well. God Bless

Hi! I’m wondering same. The recruiter told me he would have till Sunday after graduation but everything here says he leaves Saturday. He will be going out of state as well.

CBMom - Honestly, there is no guarantee of anything - Semper Gumby - Always Flexible is one of the first lessons to learn. During Covid, they were transporting sailors to their A schools via other private or military transports. I don't know how much has gone back to "Normal", but even when they fly them out commercially from one of the, I believe 2 or 3 airports in the area, it will depend on what flight they have and maybe how many are going. Then some get sent to THU (Temporary Holding Unit) which is another entirely different scenario.
In most cases, the new sailors fly out on Saturday, some not till Sunday, so we suggest if you are able to wait to go home on Monday you can have that extra time. Be sure to click on the blue letters in my first reply - "What PIR Weekend ...." That will share our experience. We literally checked out of our motel room at 1:30 AM on that Saturday and meet our sailor at the airport. He had a 6:30 AM flight out of O'Hare airport. Some sailors will be taken very early in the morning - 0 dark 30, and then left for the day to wait at the airport for their flight.
