Trey - good suggestion!! I forget to mention watching the upcoming PIR. And you have been there since I was!
Sherrilynn - First of all congratulations to your son!! To my knowledge, you should be able to take the watch to the graduation. I don't know if it will be okay if it is wrapped or not. I am not sure what the new standards are with taking purses and such to PIR, but it will be searched similar to other places, so the smaller you can take in with you, and make it more visible (clear sided purses are now available for sale), the easier it is for being checked.
I don't recommend a tripod. Everyone is sitting on bleachers, you are not allowed to stand, even if you are sitting on the very top back row!! You may take a small soft seat cushion, and dressing in layers is recommended. If your tripod, is very small and can be set up in front of you, maybe, but honestly, I think I had to hold my camera up high above me. At the time my son ordered pictures, I think he was also able to order a DVD of his PIR, or they are saved online, I think.
Small spaces, limited area to carry or store and you may be standing for a bit to get through the line into the great hall, so you have to hold onto everything, and go shop beforehand. Be sure to have cash as well for some places won't take debit / credit cards.
Sherrilynn - We did not have to deal with tickets for our PIR, but from what I have heard over the years, I would definitely get your tickets the day before, because you will want to be at the Base very early in the morning.
You can also look into Sarge's cab service. I will send you the link for his website. I think he is still doing his Meet n Greet on the night before as well.
Yes, he is still doing meet and greet 👍. We went last month for our sailor's PIR. The meal was excellent, and it was nice to meet people in person who had sailors from the same division as ours 🙂. The sailors aren't there, of course. Just families....fyi for those who may not know.
Definitely get tickets the day before, if possible. You have to arrive pretty early to get a good seat the day of, so it would be stressful to add getting tickets on top of that. I second the idea to save the gift for later during Liberty when y'all are by yourselves at the hotel or whatever. It'll be less hectic and he'll be able to fully appreciate your thoughtfulness then. Check to see if your sailor already purchased a picture package and what he got. They'll have the option to buy photos before graduation starts, so you don't want to buy anything your sailor already purchased. Mine purchased a package, so all I got on the day of was a letter sized desk calendar with my son's division photo. Get in line for that early, if you want it....they ran out pretty quickly.
Congratulations on your son's graduation and thank you for his service. Enjoy your time with him! It's a wonderful event. And definitely it'll be the best hug ever 🥰
ANavyMom - Thank you for sharing the updated informaiton!
You're welcome! I remember how helpful it was when it was my turn, so happy to pay it forward
I would double check with your sailor as to what he bought. But you might be able to purchase different things than what were in the packets. We purchased our extra stuff afterwards, so it sounds like they have changed things.
