Some of our initial moms from Navy for Moms are starting to see their sons and daughters complete A school. Depending on their classification, it could mean more advance training and for others it could mean orders to a ship or shore duty.

Every ship in the US Navy fleet serves it's specific purpose - do you know what kind of ship is on your son or daughter's "Dream List"?

In the School and Education Forum, I have started slowly pulling together some basic information by ship type for your review. It could be a great conversation with your sailor - what type of ship would they like to be on and why?

I currently have three or four types of ships posted and will work on adding to it in the days ahead. Hope this is helpful to any mom wondering...what happens after school.

I dont know how to do this BUT we should change this thread to Undesignated Sailors and then re-do a "what ship is your Sailor going to be on".
I really dont want this info lost .............
CC can we do this ? Mary do you care ? Its your thread ........
Whoo Hoo Mary you are on top of the game!!!!!
I did see someone mention the Nimitz-hey Molly gave us all great info on a show about it "Carrier" in fact I DVR it and I watched it last nite...Absoultely GREAT...it doesn't just show the day in and out of life on a Carrier but the emotions the sailors feel-from leaving port to coming home and what support they get from the Navy upon return from sea...and how they deal with it..
It was funny last nite..the chief was advising the sailors on seeing their wife and children for the first time in months and the first thing the chief said -don't tell your wife-girlfriend-husband or whatever-boy "you have put on weight" or "whata do to your hair"! I found it funny...they really try to prepare the sailors for everything upon returning home..HIghly recommend watching it....
I hope I get to see it someday... it sounds great.
Im pretty persnickety about what I watch and thought this was going to be a navy recruitment tool.........not even close. They showed the good the bad and the ugly.
Victoria if you go to my page I have a blog from a long time ago about it ....but it has a little commercial attached, just to wet your whistle on how cool it is !

you could and I probably will spend hours navigating through the whole website....
Molly, google USS Gunston Hall, Sailor Son joins them on July 1. Also an amphibious ship holding 4 of those HUGE hovercraft that come out of the back of the ship. He saw one in San Diego over weekend and said they were huge. Now he will work with them on daily basis for 2 years or until he gets other training. His snipe hunting skills will be useful as he sounds like he may be one of only 2-3 AC & R guys on the ship. Little ship, 2 football fields length. LOL He will be stationed at Little Creek, Va
I am on it ...........
He is going to be one of 2-3 guys on the Gunston Hall with his snipe skills ? Wow that is great room for advancement.
Ok I am off to do some research on the Gunston Hall .....
Also I think Paige would love to know those amphibious ships are HUGE :) If you dont make it to snipe room to say something to her. I will next time I am there. Wow I just cant wait to see his ship :)
