Hi - I'm Kathy from Northern Virginia. My son checked in to GL on 3/5 and we got "the call" around 0115 on the 6th. My husband is retired Navy so I know a "little" about the life he will be leading. My younger son just graduated from Marine Corp boot camp at Parris Island and is now at Camp Geiger for School of Infantry. All of this experience should make this easier on me, but each situation is different and I'm really missing the kids right now. The nest got empty really fast. Guess I'll have to rely on my husband, these boards and my 3 four-legged children (2 old Labs and a young Rottie) to keep me busy. Look forward to chatting with all of you during the next several months (years)....take care,

Kathy
Hi Kathy, theres an empty nest forum at http://www.navyformoms.com/forum/topic/show?id=1971797%3ATopic%3A4522 started by JeanneM.
We are a family owned by labs too. We lost our old dog last summer and now are a proud owner of the most horrible pup, he is 5 months old and weighs 45 pounds. I have to get some current photos up soon. Our other old dog is 16 years old and a little slow on those cold mornings.
Talk to you soon
Shell

I'd like you to meet our grandson, Kyle. His mommy is at college at night and during the day she student teaches at a local high school. So we are on babysitting call 24/7 :)

awwwwww
Hi Kathy, My son Jeff checked on 3/5 too but he is in DIV 169. They should both PIR on May 2. Don't you think we should all put "Navy for Moms" stickers on our purses or something? Would be great to meet some of these terrific moms in person. Talk to you again. Pat
My son graduated March 7. We had a wonderful time and were able to spend several hours Fri, Sat, and Sun with him. I am interested in talking with moms whose son/daughter is in corpsman school. I will also answer any questions about graduation. I found this website anly about a week before grad. It would have been to know about it earlier to have some support and answers during boot camp.
Here are some pictures of Alex's recruiters that I took to add to his St. Patrick's Day Card. Thought you guys would get a kick out of them. I know Alex will enjoy them.

Charlene, these are cute! Maybe size them down? And submit them to the photos :) Good idea. Sincerely, Catherine
Hi - I stopped by there to give them my sons Navy picture for their bulletin board. They were glad to see me and we had a really good talk. I have called them a couple of times also. We probably feel more connected to them than they are to us.
These pics are great Charlene!
Hi everyone. My name is April and I am from Kansas. My oldest son left on 2/25 and I found this site just a few days after. It has been amazing so far. Tyler signed on Halloween and wasn't due to leave until June 10th for the Nuke program. He decided to change after a lot of time on the computer doing some research about jobs that would be available after he is finished with the Navy and decided to go into Submarine Electronics and Computers. With that change came a earlier BC date, it was 12 days from the date he signed his new contract until we took him to the recruiting office to leave for BC. He should have graduated from High School in May, but was able to graduate early and did so at the end of the first semester. Him being gone has been tremendously hard on his younger brother and sister (8 & 11), but each and every letter that we get from him, they cherish. He is my step son so our relationship hasn't always been a great one, but I am the only mother that child had ever known since he was 6 years old and it has just been hard for him to see that I love him just like my own 2 children. I am the one that was always there when he got scared or had his heart broken. Him going to BC has really made me realize how much that I do truly love him and am so proud of him. Sorry for being long winded.
Hi April....

Don't be sorry!!! It's wonderful to hear stories about our sailors! My oldest graduated 3/7/08 and is currently in A School. He told me that there's a good chance that he will be deployed to Iraq in a couple of months. The job that he signed for has an over abundance of sailors, so the powers that be told him that they'll most likely need him to go to Iraq. And either he can volunteer and determine his length of duty over there or they can tell him he's going and he'll be at their mercy. He'll be what they call a "sand sailor" and will be supporting the Army and Marines. I'm not real thrilled about it...in fact, I bawled my eyes out at church Sunday night. But, I know that God has put him in this place at this time for a reason. So prayers are all I can do for him. God will keep him safe, no matter where he goes.

So you just keep on talking Sweetie....it's great to hear the love in your posts!

Elaine
