UN-believable ...What is wrong with the Military Mail

UPDATED!!
My sisters package was returned to her yesterday with "unknown address. The ONLY thing wrong was the last number in the zip. Our PO assured me that the packages would arrive.. Mine hasn't been returned yet. I wonder where it is?

I just found out I mailed my sons computer to the wrong apo,ae zip code. Does anyone know what will happen or what I/'he can do? I sent to 09355 should have been 09354. He is so angry at me. Just what I need.

CT, is he on a ship?
okay, he's not on a ship. I just did an internet search of FPO AE zip codes:

AE 093 Contingency

I don't think he'll have a problem getting it. All FPO AE 093__ zip codes are in the same area.
Melissa, he's an APO, Ae he's in Afghanistan
After reading the USPS website about APO/FPO addresses, here's what they say: All APO AE 093 address are delivered to NYC where the military picks them up. Military ships them overseas to address. Since your son is not on a ship, the exact zip code would not apply. I checked both the correct and incorrect zip codes and both are for Afghanistan. I'm assuming you addessed it to his unit/division along with the APO AE. It might take a little longer to get to him but he should get it. If you're really, really worried about it, call the USPS, since you have the custom's form with the shipping info on it and see what they say.
Thanks so much Melissa. Yes, everything else was correct except the last number in the zip. I will call tomorrow I also emailed my son and told him to go to the mail facility at the base he's at and maybe they will be able to give him some info. At least put his mind at easy (maybe)

Susan
It may delay a bit but he should receive it. No worries, just keep your tracking slip.
I can't believe this.
When they are overseas or in a warzone it really needs to be correct, as Achseh said.. my son is in Iraq there's a lot of places for mail to go for these guys.. they dont have time to track each and every person down.. I'm sorry this happend, its very disappointing.. just put the right address and send it again.. it happened to me on my son's first deployment and to my parents on this deployment so I know how you feel but it was my fault, my typo so I just resent it after I confirmed the right one.. he'll get the packages and it will fine :)
Well, when every postal rep assured me it would be NO problem. The last digit is not the most critical and as long as everything else was correct...which it was. YES I can blame them. There is no 'tracking down" needed. The address had exactly where he is. No guess work needed. So I guess the Military mail people only look at the last digit and then ship it back? The only difference in the zip it that it was a different base in Afghanistan. It wasn't like it went to a different country. Then I could understand. When mail is so very important to these guys I'm just shocked that they choose to...return to sender... instead of sending it on to the other base. I pray my package isn't lost.
If it was sent to a different base in Afganistan they could be on opposite sides of the country and they would have to track him down.. I'm sorry this happened.. I have started checking to return the packages on the customs forms.. if that wasnt checked the package will be treated as abandoned and go to another soldier.. I also insure packages now due to my very similar experience.. Debby
ya you know what sweetie. Same thoughts to you too. You're just ignorant
You seem to be very combative. I hope you get some therapy for it.
Appears to be long overdue.
