Hi MaryJo, I would be happy to send a card. Ann
This young man is a real gem! He was so thankful that he received so many cards and packages! You Navy Moms rock!
If you know of teachers in your area, request that their class write notes or send cards. I believe they can't be given a specific name, but if they gave them to you or someone else, then they can be forwarded to a sailor or sailors. The sailor then can respond back. My son received an envelope of cards and notes from a class while he was in Iraq. The notes and questions were so cute. It really made his day.

This would work even for our sailors who are not currently overseas. Just getting mail is so important to them. Hope this helps.
Did the same with my son (and notes from seniors at the center where we volunteer). Great way for the kids to learn patriatism and my son (and 2 of his buddies who had no family) were thrilled with the X-mas notes and ornaments made by the children.
By the way...this is a good thing for rehab centers or nursing care centers. Even if we provide the note cards. It allows them an opportunity to help someone and makes them feel like they are contributing during a period in their life when they feel they can't do much.
MaryJo,
My email address is deanramey@verizon.net
I am willing to send stuff to the sailor. Can you give me a list of suggestions of what to send him.

Thank You,

Terre
Mary jo you note made me think of one of my son's friends. I met the young man when I went to visit my son in March. He was very polite and seemed like a nice kid. when I would call Brandon if he was around he would get on the phone and say hello too. I told him I wanted to meet his mother, I know I can't in person but maybe on the phone. He said he didn't talk to her so why would I. He said they weren't close and didn't have much of a realtionship. He has been adopted by our family. daughter even sent him some cards to take underway to open up. I have too. I tried to send him an email When my son told him I sent him an email he went to check the emails but his email address was a bit different so he didn't get it. He was bummed. Now I have the correct one and am sending him some. It is sad to think that there are sailors that don't get that support. Have always tried to help out the single sailors even when my hubby was active duty. thanks for thinking of that young man.
Denise-your comments made me cry. A young man I became close to through work is now at GL (week 2). He has had no contact with his mom since he was 5 or 6. His dad is often absent and has issues of his own. I have sort of adopted this boy and love him like my own. My daughter has written to him every night and I write a few times a week. I want to make sure he knows people back home love and support him. I know how much it has meant to Thomas-he sent me a very long e-mail back in March telling me that he knows I will always be there for him and that he has come to think of me as a mom. So, keep up the good work-you have a very big heart and I am sure your support means the world to this young man!!
I got a local Middle School that is willing to write letters. Does anyone know someone who would like to receive the letters? My son is currently in A-school, so he doesn't know anyone specifically in need of the letters. Please email me with the names or addresses to send them once the teachers give them to me. My email is: tammyhsong@hotmail.com Many Thanks...
Hi Lauren,
I am sending you my email address.
I would love to help out.
Donna
