For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.
**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:
In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Please introduce yourself if your sailor is in the GM rate and provide background on your sailor so that we can get to know you. If you have specific questions about these ratings, and you ask them here, Will and Hoppi will be able to answer your questions. This will help all of us because the answers won't disappear pages down in the general forum.

Hi Kelly - So glad you joined our GM forum. I have seen your posts on the main site. Congrats on Jake's PIR and his choice to serve his country in the US Navy. My grandson is 19 and joined the Navy last November. He just completed A school and is going on to C school for VLS training just like Bill Sick's son, Brett, is doing. I haven't heard if his C school will be in Norfolk or San Diego. Being a California kid, he is so hoping San Diego. So, hang in there for the ride and make it a joyous one. We are all here to support you and help answer your questions so don't be afraid to ask. I hope you had a great weekend!!! Big Navy Hugs, Vee

Welcome aboard Kelly! Please thank Jake for serving and thanks to you for supporting him. You are both about to start an amazing journey and we are here to guide, answer and help in any way possible. No question is dumb, stupid or weird. Feel free to ask away. Someone will have the answer. Make sure to follow the Great Lakes A School Q&A. And if you haven't, try to read all the posts in this forum. You will find a wealth of info. I have a post regarding the time lines but they have changed some due to different class procedures. HI Vee, I leave to pick up Brett this Wednesday. He will be home for a week and then we move him and the wife to Norfolk/ Virginia Beach. He has no hold for C school. He reports Oct. 17th to Damneck to start training for VLS and reports to his ship on the 15th of April. He is so excited and can hardly contain himself. As for the Key Lime Pie, had some last week! LOL
Kelly, they can ask their SDC if there are any openings they can volunteer for. They can do it when in classes or on hold but will still have their duty also. Brett did yeoman duty after he graduated A school and wishes he had looked into it before. He said it was a blast and helped the time go a lot easier. -

My son is a GM and he volunteers for USO every Sat. This is good ....gets you points with your Petty Officer.. Also, in A school if your child can manage a GPA of at 95% they can choose where they want to go if there is a slot for them ...so encourage, encourage, encourage! There is a hugh world out there to explore!

Hi Bill, thanks for the update on Brett. I forget how long he has been out of A school now???? Michael may have an update on his C school by now, but I haven't caught up with him in a couple of weeks. I believe I misunderstood Michael on the phone when he told me he was going to start training for VOS ... I believe it is VLS the same as Brett. I so wish he would volunteer like Brett did for a job on base, but I think the GF takes priority now...oh, well, no one said it was a perfect world. Glad you got some Key Lime Pie. Take care now, Vee

My son "Nick" is in A school now just about to graduate, still at Great Lakes, IL and he goes to Chicago all of the time. See if you can hook up with him at the Pier sometime. He can show you around Chicago.
