Molly's special hugs are headed for a medical clinic in Kuwait! This is kind of like a MASH unit. Guys and gals pass through this clinic for medical care! So our mission this month is two fold- take care of the wonderful staff that puts themselves on the line every day and send some mom love to those wounded warriors coming through the clinic on their way to Iraq and Afghanistan.

Our contact, a Navy nurse says "We get along well in our unit for being strangers to each other, but that is the beauty of being in the military you adapt and overcome. We do that together. We are here to help out the Army medically and we are getting used to their differences. I am glad I was chosen to come here, but I look forward to going home as well. I have 3 boys at home, ages 13, 3, and 1. They are being taken care of by my husband and mother. You can't imagine how much I miss and need them."

So our mission
For the staff- A unit of 20 men and 10 women, some single, some married with children. The women have requested tampons, pads, liners, body sprays, lotions and powders, and finger nail polish (no bright colors). The men have received some packages but would like deodorants and foot powders and such. They do have microwaves so think of fun snacks! They have also requested individual drink mixes! These wonderful caretakers share what they have with those passing through so lets shower them with love!

For the patients- what is better than a note from someone who cares? When you are hurt and far from home a few kind words mean so very much! So lets stock this clinic with cards and letter that they can hand to those brave injured warriors! Along with those wonderful notes, let's send trial size lotions, eye drops, toothpaste and toothbrushes and more! The wounded warriors passing through can pick up what they need and slip it into their pocket with that precious note from home! This clinic serves 40 or more injured in a normal day.

We want to ship our packages from October 24th to October 30th!

I'm in. I will begin shopping this week.

Kim
Great Kim! Can't wait to hear what you find out shopping!!! I am planning on going this weekend!
Yesterday I was in the Dollar Tree and only bought a few cards and the clerk asks me "Where's the big basket of stuff for your sailors?" Getting too well known over there - Haha!
Vickie... I stopped to buy stamps at the post office and they asked where the boxes for the sailors were... Told them I was just starting to pack them!
Marlo, can you commit your 20 pillowcases to this group? I remember seeing a picture, but can't find it now-I believe they were all generic, right?
I will do the other 10. Moms, if you are sewers, please go the HAE page and see the thread called "mystery" project, as we have this group covered.

I have some lavender Tweety nurse fabric, plus some crazy chili pepper fabric with "scences" on it. One is of a doctor. So will have some fun ones too.
Sue, I will send the 20 I have that is no problem. They are mostly one color with a few patterns thrown in. I will get them packed with the other stuff I have.
thanks Marlo! Can you draw a heart on them with a sharpie? we've been doing that with some pillowcases.

Let's plan to mail on the 24th. does that work for you?
Sue, No problem will draw hearts on them and will have everything ready on the 24th.
that's great! got my tweety fabric out today.
the magazines would be good-even for the waiting room at the clinic.
Brenda go into here and join then after you get a email saying you have joined the room go back into it and look under Oct group for the address.
Our theme this month is 'special hugs' that means that special hug a mom gives when her kids come home or are getting ready to leave! We send it by writing cards and letters that our warriors can keep in their pockets and read and reread... just a few words from home can lift someones spirits! Especially if they are injured!

Our wonderful medical staff will be the recipients of our packages and they have asked for basic care items and snacks. Can you believe that the women have to ask for tampons and pads... They share everything they receive with those passing through on the way into or from the hot zone (Iraq/Afghanistan). I have suggested we send trial size items for those passing through to be able to slip into a pocket.
