Does anyone know how to send mail to the sailors on the Carl Vinson in Haiti?

My son is not usually on that ship but his helicopter squadron was flown out from Norfolk as they were deployed for the humanitarian mission.  I would like to send a care package but have no idea if he will receive his mail using the Norfolk address.

I don't know if they are fowarding packages to sailor that are temp. on a ship,
Usually the packages are held at the normal command and not forwarded, depending on how long they'll be on temporary duty. If the TDY/TAD is longer, then forwarding kicks in, but to a carrier? Well, then there's the onboard mail distribution system... all I can say is yikes. While the clerks are very good at what they do, they may be assigned extra duties, being quite busy if they get a package which doe snot match the ship's roster, they might just send it back without checking for the units on temp duty. Shipboard mail is always a gamble.

Visit the Vinson group to check for ideas, also send a card to his normal address to see if it goes forward or is held (let him know you're waiting for an answer ASAP).

I hope I am very wrong about the forwarding and ship's mail!
I assure you that my son has compassion as do all the sailors on the USS Carl Vinson and other US Military personnel working tirelessly on this humanitarian mission. I am in the habit of supporting my son with frequent letters and packages, I'm sorry if this bothers you.
Hoppi what does that mean?
Hoppi I am in total agreement with you, as I stated we just collected 2 uhauls full of clothing and shoes to be sent by the red cross. I do not believe that we should not send anything or think of our military over there. As I said I think you have to almost be in the military at one point to understand the devastation that we feel. It is almost easier for a Marine in combat to see this than a Brand New Sailor. I have been on this site since the 2nd week, this response from Lady just hit me the wrong way. The site is for help & support for each other not judgement and I fealt myself that it was inappropriate. Thanks for your response.
Thank you, that is a good idea.
SHOE, I am the same as you. It is unfortunate of what is going on but it is one thing to share another thing to give everything. I can't believe how much Lady Hamiltons comments annoyed me. Lady what are you sending over to the kids? I have donated money, clothes everything the red cross asked for but guess whatwhen I send a package to MY SON I want him to share with the men & women who are their to help. They are suffering enough. My son is 20 years old I almost rather him be in Iraq then Haiti. I can't even begin to imagine what these kids think when they are seeing dead bodies piled up, being moved to a group grave and now talking about burning the bodies due to the stench and afraid of new diseases. Watching people screaming and crying for their loved ones... It is like the Holicust all over again! I think a package from home is exactly what it sounds like- I am hearing first hand from family members who are physicians that volunteered. As I said while it is nice to share and I can't imagine ANY OF OUR family members not sharing something I believe they should hold onto it as a symbol of how much we care and can't wait for them all to get home. Did any other Countries even offer to help us while 9-11 was going on. SHoe I am sorry I jumped in to this but i do not even know where my child is, he was told pack his sea bags and the next day he was gone. I did not even get to say good bye or I LOVE YOU so girl, you send everything and anything to your child and I hope he enjoys it and shares with our other HEROS their to help!
Vanity, where the hell did you come from??? My sons put their lives on the line EVERY SINGLE DAY for others. Who the hell are you to say put my vanity on hold. You are a piece of work. If you had an opinion about this entire thing maybe you should kept it to yourself or shared it with the others who apparently put you on the pedestal which one day will come crashing down. I wish your son the best, maybe you want to give me his address so I can send some love & support from home along with the others.

WOW I just read this to my co workers and they are laughing at how horrible your comments were. I will not respond to you again. I am trying to see the good in this situation, it is great that your concerned as we all are for the Haitian people but my 1st loyality is to my CHILD along with all other military personnel. It is apparent you were never in the military or dealt with them before.

Have a good day!!
Paula, don't even waste your time responding. It's not worth getting upset over.

Shoebuttons, cards & packages are being sent to the Carl Vinson. Molly's group here, Molly's Adopt a Sailor is coordinating the project and everything is being sent to one of the Chaplains on the Vinson who will handle distribution to the crew of the Vinson and other ships/squadrons that have been sent to Haiti.

Thanks Pat, is there a way for me to find out where B is? He left in such a hurry. Did you get the USO info I sent you, maybe you can jump on that too (I know in all your free time)lol
Thank you for your supportive responses. I will contact the ombudsman to find out about mail. In addition, I will join the effort of molly's project.

Yes, she said their squadron is in the process of deploying to an unnamed position and she would get back to me next week. Thanks for suggesting that contact.
