We are so happy! We heard from my step son today. My Husband is so so so happy, he didn't want to hang up the phone. We encouraged him and told him to take one day at a time. We told him we are like kids running to the mailbox to see if there is a letter. He said he laughs at our letters. My hubby sends him all sports clippings. Ship 04 div 809, does anyone else have family here?

My son is in the fleet now, but I remember how excited we were when we got that call!! I am happy with you. I still live with my cell phone. I take it everywhere, so I don't miss a call. Hope he does great!
Thank you!, Was he able to come home after graduation? When did he graduate boot camp?
They don't get to come home after boot camp unfortunately. He MAY be able to take leave after A school but not always. My son was in the middle of A school when the 2 week stand down for Xmas came about so he was able to come home but he was very lucky. Not everyone did. My boy is getting ready for deployment now but he graduated boot in July 2008.
My son is also getting ready for deployment. He got to come home on leave before--so great to see him. He graduated boot in June of 2009. Chris, where is your soon stationed? Mine's at Norfolk, on the Barry.
Mommacat, my son's in San Diego but will leave on his deployment this summer. He's AIRR (Avaition Rescue Swimmer) and flies in helicopters. His deployment has been moved up 3 months so we may not get to see him before he leaves. We haven't seen him since last Thanksgiving. The navy has it's own timetable and its own way of doing things. We have to get used to it.
Hi Mommacat and Chris! He Graduates April 9th and is doing pre buds. I think he even thought he was going to come home after graduation before he went to prebuds. We got another letter yesterday and after talking to him on the phone he seemed ok, I know he couldn't say anything bad because there were people around, but this letter sounded not so good.
Chris how long was he in San Diego for? Is AIRR a part of SEALS? SO they get 2 weeks off for Christmas no matter where they are in their training? So he may be able to come home after prebuds and christmas. That is good to know. Are you able to see them while they are in training after bootcamp? If we go to him I mean?
Most of the schools do shut down over the holidays, but do you mean seeing him both after school AND at Christmas? Because he has to earn those leave days or have a negative balance. The days off aren't freebies. He'll earn leave days at 2.5 per month. So count up on your fingers and you'll have a rough estimate of how many days he will have available to him. Yes, he can borrow forward, but then he won't get leave the next year.
Thank you Anti M. I didn't know he had to earn leave while still training after book camp. That is good to know thank you!
