Alright ladies, we have a facebook page : http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=110358868983848 and a group here on N4M: http://www.navyformoms.com/group/ocsclassofmarch28th2010class1610
If you can't find the FB page, please PM me!
Welcome aboard 16-10! New mom of an Ensign here, from 12-10. So great to see a group growing - it really was a life-saver for me - although I have to admit I now have a sad addiction...to N4M! We are still posting, and as you can see from DMarie and snowmc...we are still cruising through the classes coming up - LOL, me, for my "fix"
These first few days are going to be tough - you may (or may not) get a quick call this Sunday. Put on your happy face - upbeat, encouraging - which will be tough because they will be exhausted and hoarse (from yelling everything they say). Be ready to ask what they need you to send- do NOT send care packages - only send what they request, when they request. If your LO didn't take a phone card along - send a nice sized one along in your next letter. When they are permitted to make phone calls, it is from a pay phone. My LO called, then asked me to call him back at the number he called from so he could save phone card minutes (they go FAST on a pay phone!)
You'll have lots of questions - ask away. Be careful of what you post here, as the class team does get online and read your posts. No personal information, as required by N4M, for security reasons. Feel free to friend me as well if you need a shoulder - goodness knows I used other shoulders aplenty!
Feel free to friend me also if you have any questions....we are all here to help you make it through this process. Looks like I might be doing this again in about 2 years...my youngest son is considering the same path as his brother. Need I mention how proud I will be?
Snow! how cool is that! Has your son told his younger bro what to expect? Or just going to let him live the experience! :-)
Yes..they are pretty close. Ryan knows what he is getting into with OCS...brother has shared a lot. Maybe too much! lol Ryan (the younger one) did a summer seminar at the Naval Academy while in high school. Actually had a great time, but decided that he wanted a "normal" college experience and wanted to try to "walk on" to Boise State football. (That has not worked out...they don't need any help in his position.) We all feel that he will do fine at OCS and will make an excellent officer.
Just checking in with 16-10 to see how you guys are doing! We know your LOs are in good hands...As the others have stated, be upbeat on those first phone calls, because they may sound sooo sad to your heart. They are experiencing a severe culture shock and home is their lifeline...letters are manna from heaven to them. However, it does get better as they continue to progress through each evolution of the program. Best of luck to you and your LOs! So proud to have them be a part of this elite group of men and women.
Snow, you must have done a great job in raising them. Their choices are reflecting that!
Today is Throwdown Thursday! Good luck to 16-10 as they meet their DI's!
Thank you!
And how ironic that Throwdown Thursday is on April Fools Day!
didn't think of this! Thanks!
Yes, today is a day your LO's will not soon forget! but know that it is the DI's job to turn them into the best officers that each of them can be. Let Throwdown Thursday begin!
